The old name for Boswellia is Frankincense. Don't know why they changed the name it makes it confusing 😕

Boswellia is the Latin name for the tree itself and is most commonly used in reference to the ingestible supplement. Frankincense is the resin of the bark of the tree and is most commonly used in reference to essential oils used topically or inhaled via diffuser for example.

I regularly suffered from diverticulitis. Since taking boswellia, I have not had a single recurrence of the condition. The supplement has also reduced all my joint arthritic pain to near zero levels. It has given me a sense of freedom . About two years ago I stopped taking Boswellia because I felt so good. Within one month I had another attack of diverticulitis. !! I’m on the supplement for the long term now. !

Depressingly, here in the UK asking your doctor's advice on anything alternative is mostly a waste of time as for the most part they have no idea about anything outside the box and only follow dogma.

This is very true this supplement has helped the inflammation in my brain so much and it helped the pain in my neck and my back from herniated disc and bulging disc, fibromyalgia and arthritis. This stuff is great. I take the powder form and it really does help a lot.

Information I've read on boswellia all indicate no known to no severe side effects, but I had what I consider to be a severe reaction to it. There is no indication that boswellia causes muscle cramping, but after using boswellia on its own and in a blend, I got muscle cramps in my feet, legs, ribs, and over my kidney area. The muscle cramps were both severe and painful. In both cases, the cramps disappeared within two days after discontinuing the use of boswellia. No one has been able to adequately explain this.

Dr. Meschino, do you know of contraindications for taking Boswellia along with Chemo drugs? What dose is typically given to a cancer patient. How long does it typically take for apoptosis to occur?
@DrJamesMeschino
7 ай бұрын
Regarding Boswellia treatment in cancer patients, it very much is determined by the type of cancer, the stage of cancer, liver and kidney function tests and the type of chemo drugs being recommended. As such, you are best to have a consult with a Naturopathic doctor, who specializes in Oncology, who can help asses all of these individual aspects and decide if Boswellia will be effective, safe to use and what dosage in a particular case. Hi doctor, I have a kidney cyst and I wonder is boswellia can help to shrink the cyst. Thanks in advance
@DrJamesMeschino
5 ай бұрын
Hi, Sylvia, it's difficult to make a blanket statement saying it will or won't - it depends very much on the nature of the cyst itself. Boswellia can be helpful in reducing the size of cysts in other areas of the body, but nothing definitive about kidney cysts. Most as we age are benign, but it's important to make sure a doctor is monitoring your condition to determine the severity and the treatment options if necessary. If they are benign, you could try boswellia anecdotally and again, have your doctor monitor any progress.

Can this be used by itself minus the Curcumin?
@DrJamesMeschino
Жыл бұрын
Yes it can and it is available alone. Generally natural products tend to have a compounded effect when several are taken together. First, they may have slightly different mechanisms by which they achieve results, and second, they can support each other's action. I equate it to "2+2=5" effect. I believe Nature's Way makes a Boswelia stand alone product, and there are likely others.

It might work slightly in a topical formulation, but it would be as frankincense. We are talking about it here as a supplement in herbal form, often combined with other anti-inflammatory herbs like curcumin and ginger
