My first full Beer on the Brain episode, on a recently circulating myth that one of the most commonly used sanitizing agents in brewing - Starsan - cannot kill yeast. We tackle this myth head on, with a mixture of biology and chemistry.
It has been brought to my attention that there are different versions of this myth floating around, including one where the claimed charge of the bacteria, yeast and starsan are reversed relative to my video. The end effect, regardless of where the myth places the charge, is the same - in reality both yeast and bacteria are negatively charged, as are anionic sanitising agents like Starsan, and the system works as described in the last few minutes of the video.
