Jeux is a very touchy score, probably one of the most advanced of Debussy. It is not often played. Boulez offers a splendid rendition to us, letting us hear the mystery of his construction. It is a pity to have cut the interpretation by an interview of Pierre Boulez, vary interesting indeed, but which could have been gathered before the staarting of the music.

The good music is interrupted with the interview.

@@davidmcmurray9933 Dear friend, that"s KZitem !!!!!! Either you pay, r h you have to suffer from these commercial practices, even in such masterwork which are the work conducted by Boulez and very subtelr Boulez' comments !!! Such aggressive commercial practices are not compatible with our musical education and culture, but as well with what is music indeed. Do you imagine the most sacred works by JSB interrupted by an avertissement about a "revolutionary" toothpaste? My God.... do they use toothpaste in Paradise?

Why on earth did someone interrupt the music with Boulez's comments? OMG it was such a splendid performance and they ruined it

If the music can't explain itself, it's probably garbage.

Boulez's important comments on the use of rubato in this piece could easily have been used in the interview not as an overlay as the goddamn piece is playing. Common critique of this piece but this is a very good performance and sad that it was edited so. His comments are important but not more important than the music.

Thanks! I agree that the interview with Boulez should not be during the music, though. JOHN

Pierre Boulez wrote an important book on music analysis, "Notes of an Apprenticeship." Well worth looking at. Ways to relook at what many composers did.

Wonderful to watch P. Boulez conduct this. I very much love playing DeBussy's later piano music. Not unlike his orchestral models.

Great performance, shame the video editors butcher it by putting an interview overtop the best part

Yes, the music should never be interrupted. I imagine Boulez would feel the same.

Has to be a student orchestra at one of the major conservatories. All players are decidedly young.
Jeux fait musique de film, par moments - précisément par son côté momentané, décousu, enchaînement de micro-suspenses. Cette impression anachronique résulte probablement d'une influence sur les compositeurs Hollywoodiens de la grande époque.

In my ciew, when conducting « Jeux », Boulez is very good, Inghelbrecht is excellent indeed... and Manuel Rosenthal is absolutely OUTSTANDING.

I like the free improvising style of Debussy here. The rehearsals of this piece must have been a nightmare for any conductor.
