My father was a jack of all trades (a tool and die maker) & he would take my 2 younger brothers & I out to look for things like that which were put out as trash such as lawnmowers, fans, car parts etc... He’d switch the parts around to make one good unit or he’d fix whatever was wrong with it. If he couldn’t find a part he’d make one on his lathe. I enjoy your videos 😊

I like those rotating louver fans. When I worked in a university computer lab they had one of the nice multi-colored orange/grey/white 1990's fans on full blast in the summer when the A/C wasn't working well enough. Loud but really did the trick

Take it the triangle screws went with the old motor to the scrap box. Yes they are a pain when you get them, but even worse are the round ones with 3 little grooves at the side. All those fans fail because of a lack of oil, the manufacturers never add any to the bushings, just rely on the drop that was there on the sintering that was used to do the initial impregnation, and you often find the 2 little felt oil holders are totally dry and clean, never having the oil applied from the factory. That and of course the CCA wire that is guaranteed to fail.

The triangle screws went to the scrap box, I had spare screws from the other fan casing. That replacement motor worked and as you said the bearings were stone dry. Bit of lube sorted them out.

That really seems like planned obsolescence (the combination of making it that prone to failure, then using those screws to try to make repairs hard).

It's a fun model. I came close to buying one in 2011. How old are the ones you show in the video. They must be quite old. How did the others break up. of that model.
