If she really called, she should have keep on telling that. We don't know how much was cut, but she let's it go too easy for what we saw. If she didn't call because, whatever a hangover, then the best thing is to admit. But to me it looked like either they wanted an excuse to fire her (Diane probably jealous or one of the other women) or her work wasn't good and then waited for a moment like this. But when innocent, it could have been easily proven. Back in the early 2000s, I would get my (cell) phone bill specified with the number and length every single month. One time when I had pre-paid I suddenly had lots of money gone of my credit, called in and they sent me a review the very next day instead of waiting till end month. You could probably find it online with your provider since then when needed proof other than just showing it on your mobile itself where you could show some screenshot being altered. Still, I rather trust her than Duane or Diane. Okay, I had to think back to this show and about how many people were fired. THere is a playlist I clicked on, this was the first

I worked with guy like Duane, always in the office before shift, to download, because he worked afternoon shift. Then when he spoke to you, tried to be your best friend in the world. He travelled 80 miles a day upto that point over 16 years, for work, had 4 children (last one, was a surprise), so l guess he created his own personal hell. So glad to leave that job.....Girlfriend worked a couple of shifts before this Christmas, 10 years later ( we are waiting for COVID restrictions to lift, so we can go back home....And it is instantly much worse there. Only European workers make up the workforce they are trapped, by raising a family. I actually feel for them, because it is your life, slipping away.

I guarantee you first and foremost there was no employee policy manual as there is required by federal law for all businesses employing taxable incomes. Unless he paid everyone cash under the table, if he was paying everyone with an hourly accounted, payroll with deducted tax for the IRS they’re required by law to have an employee policy handbook or easily accessible policy outline online. If he wasn’t that could have gotten him 20 years for fraud or evasion alone. Second, in the policy manual it would spell out exact attendance requirements and consequences. No business in America has an attendance requirement of being fired if you’re late just once. Not even nursing in hospitals which is far more vital and important everyone show up on their shift schedule on-time. Again, consistently late? Yes, problem. One time? Not fireable.

The reason that they are always behind on deadlines is because people like Duane are always walking around trying to be "the boss" and not doing anything productive. I was a foreman in a prototype shop, just like this, and when we would even look like we might get behind, I'd be right out there in the shop, up to may ass in the work. Coddington could be extremely innovative. Find pictures of CadZZilla, the customized Cadillac owned by the frontman for ZZ Top. It is one of the greatest hot rods ever built. It's also worth over a million dollars - and Boyd Coddington's cut was $900,000. By the time this show came out, Coddington's shop was doing a lot of cookie-cutter cars. Given that, they still generally work as cars. Compare that to OCC's show bikes - beautiful creations that would be hell to ride more than half an hour or so at a time.

Another thing about Coddington cars that many don't seem to know. They had a propensity for showing up in Las Vegas car shows within a year of being built. Did the owner tire of it that fast? Unlikely. Were they junk? Probably not. Or were they in house self promotional builds with a third person fronting so as to get the name and pictures in the various magazines? That would be my bet. In regards to employees and rules, in Coddingtons shop there was really only one rule. That rule was work for a pair of jerks named Boyd and Duane without question and blind unflinching loyalty or get gone. Foose was always considered the arch rival since he left to go on his own. Charlie was a dick because he wanted to try and expand his limitations by joint venturing with Foose. Mike was disloyal because he worked for Foose on his own time. Bluebear was told he could build what he wanted and was considered disposable when he didn't bow down to Boyd's interferring in his project. And the list goes on....... In the end though Coddington did the right thing. He died and made the world a better place.

"You have to be strict with these people in order to do business" -Boyd. THIS IS EXACTLY HOW NOT TO RUN A BUSINESS. It Reminds me of something Richard Branson once said: Question: As an owner what is more important? You take care of the employees? or you take care of the customers? Answer: Take care of the employees, because if as am owner I take good care of the employees I don't need to worry about the customers. The reason work ain't getting done and morale is bad is because you and your foreman are not taking care of the employees. They seem to have everyone terrified of losing their job or worse so demoralized they no longer care about their job. You talk about kicking ass? Looks like its your ass getting kicked because everyone (especially people with talent) seems to be heading over to the competition.

No people skills are the reason Boyd went bankrupt. Hated by many - loved by himself only.

chief tp There’s a balancing act between being a slave owner mentality and letting your employees walk all over you. Nobody’s put on this planet to make someone else’s dreams come true. Or to feed some monster ego. He pissed off Roy, the guy that chick worked for. If I were the boss, I’d have checked in with Roy to see if he felt she was worth having around. And a one time warning policy on no call/no show is sufficient. It makes little sense to fire everyone who ever gets a hangover.

No kidding. As I recall, they were struggling to find someone decent in that part of the shop, and they go and do this so they can keep up their front that they are hard-ass about the no-call-and-you're-fired rule.

if she has been there longer than her probationary period its a wrongful discharge. Verbal warning, Written warning, then termination... Coddington never follows the employment rules. He is a crook.

Boyd's pissed.. Nobody had any job security at Boyds.. He was such a suck-worthy human being. In the end his early death was justice. Perfect example of a talented artist thrust into a position of total incompetence as a business manager. In the end he left a legacy of a few nice cars, and dozens of horrible stories about his complete and utter ass-holyness as a human being. That prick he hired as "number one" manager too... He sure showed his colors as a looser in the industry after Boyds death. Oh well, time has passed, the wounds are largely healed, and the heels are still wounded.

You have an employer with high turnover. Coddington and Duane are the common denominators. What a ridiculous company policy. So if an employee got in an accident and were in the hospital and didn't call in. They would be fired? At some point you have to trust you employees has a legit reason for missing work and the whole F'n world doesn't revolve around you.

Lame, this shop isn't worth even going in for an interview in my book. Not that she was right for not showing up but apparently they don't take into consideration all the hard work employee's put in for them.

American Hot Rod really could have been something special...... I loved it for the cars, projects, imagination and 95% of the people.... Though that bloody Duane was like a wrecking ball in every episode.... Gezzzz, when I stumble across these memories it still fills me with sadness that he destroyed the hopes and dreams of so many .... Trish, I hope your career was able to prosper in a place where your skills were valued and appreciated.

i never really watched this show but i clicked on one of the videos of Boyd firing a guy and then in the suggested videos there was another one, and then another one, and then someone quits and then another one is fired. What the hell kind of operation is this?? LOL its obvious they had MAJOR issues at that place when this was filmed WOW!

Is it possible that Jo Coddington talked to Trish when she claimed she called in sick? We already know that Jo was the ONLY person that disliked Liz Miles and had her fired. According to Jo, Liz had a bad attitude, but meanwhile Boyd would get in full blown screaming matches with half of the shop. My theory is that Boyd's talentless gold digger wife was afraid of another woman stepping on her turf and took the call from Trish but didn't tell anyone. 10+ years later Jo is still stuck in her gold-digger ways, still riding Boyd's coat tail while pretending she was the one responsible for his success.

Duane was such a brown Moser if Boyd stopped suddenly Duane would go straight up his butt. Everyone that quit or got fired went on to better things.
