Great bit of old footage... what I really love though is the commentary and the memories being shared. It feels like I can listen to other people who shared some of my past when I was a young lad, I don't know know anyone now... plus I live on Canada now, so this is a two fold walk down memory lane for me. 😊😊.

When I was at Thornaby we had about 14 class 20 s on shed . We used them double on the potash trains . Most of them were permanently coupled in pairs. It was very rare that we separated them. And when you did have to separate them the jumpers were always stuck together solid.

This interesting video (and the 3 preceding parts) are dated 2004, so 20 years old now. Hoping the contributors are all still with us. The 70s BR blue generation is now either in retirement or close to it, hence it is starting to die off a bit now. Very much agree with the comment about the noise of the 20s. For me part of it is that they were the locos which tended to handle the last remaining loose-fitted coal trains. Where I grew up (East Midlands) there were still a fair few unfitted coal trains around until about 1982 when the arrival of the 58s switched everything fully over to air braked MGR. I'll always associate the chopper noise of the class 20s with the squeaking and squealing of rusty unfitted mineral wagons.

Loved the shots of Coventry station, I spent quite a lot of time there. I used to live in Kenilworth not too far away of course.

Great video & information on the class 56. We used to get the class 56’s running on the chiltern line from west ruislip recycling centre carrying the old glc & west waste yellow container trains during the mid 80’s to early 90’s. Found the original blue early locomotives to be more noisy than the grey one’s used on this route.

No, the later built class 56s left Doncaster Works in large logo livery from new, not all over blue.
