So many happy memories here, just wish I had appreciated how lucky I was at the time. Now, looking back on it all, it's hard to believe it ever happened! How lucky are we all to have youtube! Thank you so much for taking the time and effort to share this with us all.

What a great video, such a great variety too!!. Lovely to see 31430 Sister Dora and her spirited departure. She is still plying her trade to this day on the Spa valley railway in Tunbridge Wells, my local heritage railway ive had haulage plenty of times and she's still as claggy. Locos of the 80s had such class , nowadays the motive power on offer hasnt . No clag, No class.

That was excellent. That really brought memories back. Spent plenty time in my youth in Carlisle. Overnighters were extremely good nights. Then bashing the rest of the next day till tiredness eventually kicked in. Thank you for sharing.

Another outstanding film. Loved seeing all the proper traction back then and so much variety. I wished I was alive back then so I could have experienced that myself! I can just about remember seeing Intercity Swallow liveried 86s, 87s, 90s and HSTs plying their trade up and down the WCML before they became Virgin Trains.

The fans on the electrics were my favourite part of the West Coast as a youth. I only encountered them really going to London which was exciting in itself. Then as a student I was going to and from Liverpool via Crewe and they became familiar. This video brings back many happy memories. Thank you.

That was one of the last occasions 37501 passed through Carlisle in its BSC livery. In July it went to Doncaster for overhaul and repaint into Railfreight Metals livery, retaining its Teesside Steelmaster name. Also, 47436 is seen again, which is on my layout!

Not much has changed with the track layout since then, the station looks a lot cleaner now but the amount and variety of traction there is brilliant. I miss those days, now everything is the same apart from a bit of freight passing

They must have split the Lowland sleeper at Carlisle back then rather than at Carstairs Junction as now. When I first did a Scottish sleeper ,the Highland one,in,I think 1994,it had either an 86 or 87 on it from Euston and a 37 on it at Inverness if I remember rightly.I can't remember where it was split but guessing due to the consist Edinburgh as now.

Had it not been for the 1975 Bog Junction goods line pileup there'd be no freight through Citadel. For some reason that section was abandoned.
