Colton Roenker, a patient at Cincinnati Children's: "You have glasses to help you see. I got leg braces to help me walk."
"My favorite things are PS4 and playing football. I can't actually play football, but I play it with my dad."
Kendra Roenker, Colton's Mom: "Colton is kind, he's loving. He's funny. He has an incredibly positive outlook on all things in life. He has a can-do attitude of 'I can do anything. I just might have to do it a little differently.'"
"He has touched a lot of people's lives with his positivity, just kind of his outlook on life."
"Colton's story, initially was hypomyelination, which explained some of his developmental delays, as far as walking, talking, things like that."
(Hypomyelination: an abnormally low amount of myelination (the process by which an insulating layer of fatty tissue develops surrounding nerve cells). A number of conditions (hypomyelinating disorders) are characterized by an abnormally low amount of myelination)
"We got the additional diagnosis of cerebral palsy."
(Cerebral palsy (CP) is a neuromuscular disorder that affects movement, muscle tone, balance and posture. It is caused by damage that occurs to the immature, developing brain most often before birth. There is currently no known cure for Cerebral palsy. It is treated with medication and therapies that help to alleviate symptoms. Each case of Cerebral palsy is different, and the disorder can affect the patient in a number of ways.)
"Every doctor, every specialist we see, all of our therapies, everything, is through Cincinnati Children's."
