Featuring off-the-dome spoken word by Hualalai Keohuloa, "Eat You" is a humorous take on the serious subject of agriculture (or the lack thereof) in Hawaiʻi.

Millions of people visit Hawaiʻi every year, yet few stop to think about where our food comes from. The large majority is shipped in by Matson from the continental USA. Even easily-grown-here tropical fruit is often imported to circumvent growing seasons: Avocados from Equador, mangoes from Mexico.
This is a modern problem. Pre-contact Hawaiʻi supported a population similar to today's using a sustainable land and ocean management system called ahupuaʻa. Traditional Hawaiian farming styles are celebrated by permaculturists around the world as an ideal model of stewardship.
Instead of supporting the potential of some of the world's most fertile farmland and its mahiʻai, the territory, then state, has chosen to prioritize plantation crops and the sale of "paradise" to tourists. An absurdly high cost of living makes it difficult for normal residents to buy local produce, let alone find the time and land required to farm.
It's a complicated problem with deep colonial roots. Fixing it starts with informing people. If you live in Hawaiʻi or like to visit, you owe it to yourself to understand the situation better.
Don't take food for granted. Every bite is a blessing.

LYRICS:
Aloha kākou, welcome to our islands
We hope you enjoy your stay
Do your shopping and notice the labels
10% say "Hawaiʻi grown"
This discrepancy might pose some minor problems
So buckle up if Matson goes down
I hope that I won't have to eat you
But if the store runs out of food
You're the backup plan for my ʻōpū
Keep an eye out, we've got some land-use problems
Plenty hotels, not much ag
Farming's hard, not everyone can afford it
So we have to make ends meet somehow sordid
I hope that I won't have to eat you
But if the store runs out of food
You're the backup plan for my ʻōpū
I hope that we won't have to eat you
But you arrived here last
So we decide how to portion out your ass
If all goes well, you can go home
But we have to stay right here
Don't forget us, buy local food
And maybe someday we can provide for ourselves
I hope that I won't have to eat you
But if the store runs out of food
You're the backup plan for my ʻōpū
I hope that we won't have to eat you
But you arrived here last
So we decide how to portion out...
I hope that I won't have to eat you
But if the store runs out of food
You're the backup plan for my ʻōpū
You're the backup plan for my ʻōpū
You're the backup plan for my ʻōpū
