It was not a typical biographical story but more intimate about the relationship between two dynamic individuals and their relationship, love, and marriage. It was genius in the way Bradley became Lenny and the fact that his children were so pleased with this movie that they allowed the family home to be used for filming. Genius tends to be complicated and this film captures the emotional complexities of this marriage. BRAVO!❤🎺🎹🎼🎷🎻🎭

I agree with you, I was watching it on Netflix last evening and gave up on it about an hour in because there was such a lack of music or conversation about music in the first half, just backstory. I'll watch the second half tonight or tomorrow but I agree, so little music or conversations about music and instead it's all focused on his relationships. It's also a shame that people who don't know anything about him will get an impression that has almost nothing to do with his musical genius and musical career.

I worked at Tanglewood one summer and when Bernstein was there you could see the connection and mutual respect between him and the orchestra, the same with the student orchestra and his conducting class, he was a great teacher with very high standards as you would expect, and inspired musicians to play at their best. This film doesn't show much of this, which is disappointing. Bernstein conducted the overture he wrote for "Candide" at the "Young People's Concerts" with the New York Philharmonic (which is played under part of the end titles in the film), here's a link: kzitem.info/news/bejne/26RryJyAbouJaYo. Here's a performance at a slower tempo years later with the London Symphony Orchestra: kzitem.info/news/bejne/lWhok62YcYaJnW0

I don’t know what some people are looking at? This is not Oscar worthy, it was way over the top and I only wish he directed, produced and let someone else perform the role as Leonard Bernstein. I had to turn it off. His look, his mannerisms all too much. Sometimes less is more. Bradley Cooper can act but this was spoiled by his passion for the film overtaking the film itself. Subtle the word for today.
