I think the reasoning is probably balancing rehabilitation and punishment. She still has an opportunity to be a productive member of society later in life. The longer she stays in prison the more likely it is that she winds up falling into a life of crime after she gets out. Overall it’s better for society for us to rehabilitate people, and other countries do a much better job at it than we do in the US. Please don’t interpret this as defending her or excusing her actions. These are just the things judges take into consideration.

@@jasonrulesudont5515 I get what you're saying. However, everyone who kills someone with a DUI technically has an opportunity to be rehabilitated and become a productive member of society. Therefore, sentencing people based on potential for rehabilitation is completely subjective and arbitrary, and ends up having more to do with bias and privilege than anything else. It's pathetic that she was given leniency based on presumably nothing but her age-- because it surely wasn't based on her attitude or level of remorse.

She also talked about not having snapchat (if she goes to prison), drinking in Vegas because there's no legal drinking limit in Vegas, when she could get her car back and was more concerned about whether or not she could go to school on Monday. The cop tries again to explain to her that she KILLED two innocent people with her car and she didn't even have the slightest look of remorse. To her, her personal life being interrupted by the arrest was more concerning. Intoxication and being high usually reveals a person's true side and this is her true side. "Two people died? Whatever. @Phillip Banes Many people have been under the influence. It’s only the ones who are absolutely elated at killing people that are evil. Alcohol lowers your inhibitions but your core personality is consistent. I wouldn’t laugh maniacally at killing someone neither drunk or sober. She was borderline orgasmic at the idea she killed 2 people drunk as she would be sober. I have a years of experience with people who were full fledged alcohol and drug addicts and the core of their personality stays consistent sober and drunk. They may be louder, more obnoxious, lose control of reality but not once was did someone’s behavior and core principles reflect such sociopathic behavior. Any defense of her vile behavior come from people who are so obtuse that nothing will make them see why her behavior is so abhorrent. That’s the difference between good and evil of our society.
@mamabirdie734
Жыл бұрын
@Phillip Banes The majority of comments here condemn her. They constitute what is called the normal group of society or what is considered a normal reaction to such sociopathic behavior. Your defense of her is glaringly in the minority. So, you’re either a troll or you are among that group of society which we refer to as abnormal. Or what we refer to when we say, “One of these things is not like the others” Nothing will change your mind as you are confident in justifying her behavior. With that type of mentality you will always be on the outskirts of what is considered to be moral behavior. That can be attributed to either you relate to her bc you identify and align with her deplorable values, you have a loved one who is just like her so you’re blinded by your biased views similar to the (not my kid) excuse, or your brain is hard wired to think like the criminal element of the population. Ultimately, impossible to educate. I never said obtuse has anything to do with good and evil. I called YOU obtuse ( not quick or alert in perception, intellect, or observant) for your failure to understand why we condemn her behavior.
@mamabirdie734
Жыл бұрын
@Phillip Banes My ability to refrain from laughing maniacally at killing people while drunk would be 2nd nature and reflects precisely why everyone is on one side of the argument and you’re on the other. Good people don’t have to TRY not laugh if they were her they just don’t because it’s not in their core values to do so. It’s effortless not to be happy at the death of 2 innocent people. I also notice you have yet to have any modicum of sympathy for the victims but have spent more time defending her behavior. As far as karma goes I’d be more worried about your karma in defending her actions so adamantly only to have someone like her do the same to you or your family at which point your defense of her would be karma in that you should never have defended her actions now being a victim. On their other hand should I or a loved one be the victims of someone like her my condemnation of them would remain unchanged. On the contrary, it would be even more strengthened. You say mob mentality I say social norms. I’ve seen many alcohol and drug users who have remorse during and after the incident. Very rarely do they exhibit the evil of this woman which is precisely why it has garnered so much attention and condemnation. Looks like the only one experiencing karma right now is her. She is a sociopath based on the complete logic she lacks a conscience. Even her lawyer alluded to her “defiance” on another video. At this point I’m convinced you’re simply a troll and therefore a waste of my time. It’s very simple: When you kill 2 people you should be: a) Happy, singing, and dancing b) Sad and remorseful You don’t have to go to school to select the right answer, unless you’re a sociopath. Such an unreal thing to watch - that woman had no cares despite taking the lives of two people. Very abnormal, even if she was under the influence. I bet she’s crying now! But it’s for herself likely. I sure hope reality hit her when she sobered up. A distant family member of mine is in jail currently. He lost his wife to a terminal illness, never was a drinker before, but became one after her loss. He got super wasted and drove on one of their painful anniversaries, killed a man who was a pillar in a community as he drove drunk, and as he should, he cried the whole time and begged for forgiveness. He’s doing his time, he knows what pain he caused, he knows he deserves this - so when I was watching the recording police had of her I was absolutely STUNNED to see the lack of remorse. My heart goes out to the two people she took away & their families.
