i have a book that i think only exists here in Brazil, called "Nórdicos, mitos e sagas" (Norsemen, myths and sagas), and it says this, in my terrible translation to english because the book is in Portuguese: "As soon as Bragi was born, in the cave full of stalactites where odin gained Gunnlods afections, the dwarfs gave him an magical golden harp and, placing him in one of their own ships, they sent him to the entire world. When the ship passed gentelly through the darkness of the underground and floated above the limits of Naim, the kingdom of the dwarf of death, Bragi, the beautiful and immaculate young god that until then had not shown signs of life, sat down suddenly and, with the harp at his side, started to sing the amazing song of life, that went to the skies and then dived into the queendom of Hel, goddess of death. While he played, the ship floated smoothly above the sunny waters and finaly reached the beach. Bragi kept going on foot, opening the way through the naked and silent forest, playing while he walked. By the sound of his music, the trees started to sprout and bloom, the grass under his feet got full of flowers" After that, basecally he meets Idun in this forest and they immediately fall in love, but thats what the book says about Bragis origins, hope its of some help. Sköl!

With the little information that we know of Bragi, a little bit of him reminds me of Orpheus from the Hellenic stories. Depending on which sources you find, he was either a mortal or somewhat of a demigod (his mother was a muse) who was so good with playing the lyre, he was able to move animals and trees and after the death of his wife, the Hellenic Gods (minus Dionysus). Love your video on Bragi! A lot to think about. Can't wait for your next video.

I am a Native American (Maliseet 1st Nations, Wabanaki). I know about Norse Mythology only due to my study in college on ancient cultures for writing, so I don’t know much, only the Poetic Edda, which was a requirement. I didn’t know until today that it’s a living religion. I follow my traditional culture, but I feel an extremely strong connection with this for some reason. There may be something I need from this for my journey. Yesterday I had a vision of a crow. Today I found your channel. All day I wondered what the crow meant. Now I know it was Odin. Apparently I am on a new path for a time. I’m only mentioning it in case it has any relevance to you, as I got my answer randomly stumbling into your channel. Might be a reason, so just in case.

Hi! And I've always felt attracted to Native American spirituality, but, since I can't prove I have 1/32 Cherokee in me (I'm half American and half Spanish, and I don't have my great-great-grandma's name - she was the Cherokee), I can't join the Cherokee nation. But I've always felt lots of respect for anything Native...

Really nice video, brother. I enjoyed it with a cup of mead. About the origin of Bragi, I think he is a god and the son of Odin, but he maybe liked to roam Midgard every now and then and one of those travels is what people know as Bragi The Old. His name "the old" even relates to Bragi's long white beard. But yeah, great video. Until the hall, skål!

So many similarities between the celtic and norse pagan paths - the Skalds and Bards and much more. I was always interested in both paths (and more) for the area I live in (Germany/Niederrhein) was a melting pot of germanic, celtic and roman culture. I'm new to your channel and enjoy it very much. My understanding was that the poetic edda and the prose edda are pretty much the only ancient sources we have. If the eddas don't say much, then where is this information in the other books coming from? I'm assuming there is a lot to this that i don't know.

How many deities who’s names have been forgotten (like how much is missing on the Vanir) or who have never been known by name to us? Maybe it’s best to stay open and just be open and mindful of the sense of their presence, relationship and meaning versus what they are called or who they really are because we’re just not in the best position to know?

But I can't find a any archeology or historic depictions or replicas. I would like to own a historic replica to use. If anyone can help lmk. Maybe it was a horn but I've heard it was a cup with a sort of ship shape not sure what that means also I don't recall what source that was from. If anyone can help lmk.

People forget that at one time, thousands of years ago, white Europeans lived in tribes, existed in villages not cities, worshipped a variety of nature based gods that were local to their land, were very in touch with the seasons of nature, and lived and relied on the plants and animals of the region. The same monotheistic religion based civilizations that came from the East to later try to subjugate the culture of the native tribes of North America had already done the same to the native tribes of Europe a thousand years earlier. Believe me, many white people are also awakening to how much of our native culture we lost due to visitors from the East.

In my own personal journeys (I journal them), but of course it doesn't form part of the lore, it's just my UPG, I've encountered more than one God/dess who was a deified human being. Things like that happened all over the world, in all sorts of mythology. Probably, the same thing happened to Jesus. Look at Buddha. You remember, when you were little, playing the "telephone game"? It was where a group of little kids would sit in a circle, and one would whisper a sentence really fast to the next kid, who in turn did it with the next kid, and so on. Then the last kid would say out loud what he heard and thought the first kid had said, and all you'd get was gibberish that didn't even come close to what kid number one said? Well, that's what I think about mythology in general, that you have to use a fine comb to try to gather the few remnants of truth, among the kennings, the boasting, and tons of imagination on the part of people who came much later. For me, being a Norse Pagan, curiously, the Viking age doesn't attract me at all. I feel much closer to what there might have been about 2000-3000 years ago. Then, from those stories of the gods, handed down orally to the following generations, deeds became feats or miracles, important people became much larger than life, and then, maybe a millennium or 2 afterwards, after Iceland felt it had to become Christian, around the year 1000, when it's leader, after meditating (doing utiseta) came to the conclusion that the best thing for his people to do was for them all to turn away from the old gods (due to economic reasons, mostly), the christians came right in, and started to compile old stories of the old Gods, and so much was probably changed.... like in the "telephone game." Take for example Freya (I prefer this spelling). Germanic women, in general, had much more power and agency in pagan times, than under the christians, where they had to become "modest" submissive nobodies. That's probably why her sexuality was tolerated much less than that of married and faithful Frigg, the dignified matron, whereas Odin was a womanizer, no biggie if he was. He was a man, after all. After all, it was christians who put to paper all the old oral myths giving it such a strong sexixt Christian flavor, that you constantly hear of Valhalla, and hardly anything about Folkvanger, or any of the minor goddesses (Syn, Geffjon, Vor, Var, Saga, Eir, etc. So who knows how many gods were actually people risen to god-status? I know (from my own seidhr experience -- being called to this path so long ago (maybe for the last 28 years???) being a seidhkona, becoming a gydhia and a vitki -- a runologist), that Odin was once a man, (before his sacrifice to get the runes). They say the Prose Edda is not very reliable historically, as it tries to relate its gods to Greek heroes, kings and gods of old just to gain prestige, but *before* I knew that, Odin told me his tribe, led by his uncle, Tyr (Odin was an orphan) came from the southwestern portion of Asia, north of Iran, came through Turkey, passing through present-day Austria, until they settled down in Northern Germany, pushing up into Denmark and pushing the Vanir peoples, up towards what today is Norway and Sweden, (remember that most seidhr, Vanic Freya's specialty, was highly influenced by the Sami and Siberian people) and skirmishes broke out when the less peaceful Aesir tried to dominate them, but couldn't. Upon my asking him where he was from, he even gave me the name of the town he was born in. I swear upon the gods I had NO idea about this. And I don't swear lightly. I'm even afraid of saying this publically in case I'm called a nutjob. But I swear by the Gods this is true. And I don't do drugs or have any mental illnesses. In fact, I help people out, and being a bit eclectic, I'm also a Reiki II practicioner, so you gotta keep your mind, spirit and body clean of junk to function well in this practice. The only thing I drink, once in every 10 blue moons (such is my bad luck, and I hate beer)..... is a wonderful mead produced here in Seville, called Valhalla, by the way! 🤣🤣🤣 valhallahidromiel.com/es/. Gods how I love the "Doble Miel": double honey: very sweet..... yummie. When I asked him where he was born, he gave me the name of a city, Bursa, and said it was in present-day Turkey. Upon finishing my journey, I quickly checked the internet excited but also thinking, come on, man, this is only your imagination......-- now, this was about 8 years ago, and I almost sh%%%%&at in my pants when I found out that the city of Bursa in Turkey existed. And then, about a year or 2 * later* I read the Prose Edda where it says Odin was Turkish. I was shocked out of my wits. Yes, you can't rely on the Prose Eddain terms of historical accuracy, but man, he told me this directly, and when travelling, as in everyday life, I do NOT use drugs. Imagine my shock. In my journeys, I've learned that the 3 Vanir gods we know about today, were originally human shamans, too, and a version of Heimdall, called Rig, was also human, though he wasn't, according to him, Scandinavian, but born in what is now the Netherlands (at that time, lots of swamplands and islands. So...... I'd just love it if I could go back in time and see this all for myself. As we say here in Spain, I'd (metaphorically) give an eye for an opportunity like that.

What i got from this is Bragi being born from Odin but since he was still born they send Him out Into the World so when he awoke Neither he nor us humans of Midgård or the aesir and vanir knew so he was a half god and his life could have gone either way but he choose music and poetry and the rest is history. That is the feel i get any way :) Years and peace skål.

Working with bragi he feels completely different than Odin. I have not a single ounce of doubt that bragi is not odin. Also it makes sense that the giantess would birth bragi. They were with the mead of poetry. I also get the same feeling from bragi that I get from kvasir. There are multiple mentions of gods and giants reborn I see bragi as kvasirs reincarnation from my personal relationship with him. What better time for him to reincarnate than through Odin, a giantess and the mead of poetry. (These are just my experiences)

I view Bragi as more of a hero than a God. Shame our faith was destroyed throughout history, and so many neopagans bleeding Christianity into it. Last thing WTF is with wicca people? They're in every norse pagan group, but they're like just HS kids having fun. We need a hall, our own forums, weekly perhaps daily articles on our history, mot just the faith, but the ways of the Norse people.

Braggi is who you would invoke before meetings, before a job interview, a performance or something like that. Braggi is a Baard, so gift of gab is also his thing. He's mostly considered to be the god of communication, so along with maybe frigg or freya or Baldur, braggi can help with communication between couples and friends, respectively. What's said to make Braggi different is that he wasn't born a god but made one through the gift of Odin, thus the acrimony between himself and the "red headed step child", Loki. But as you said, we don't know much, we only infer from the Norse perspective, so we think Loki's problem with Braggi is that Odin liked him better despite being what we might call adopted and Loki being what we would call like biological son of Odin, but an interminable screw up and attention seeker. Essentially, Braggi and Baldur were the 2 children of Odin who were the least to be a pain in his ass. I don't know if that will make sense to many, but there it is.
@grell5108

I'm sorry, but Loki isn't a son of Odin. He's Odin's blood brother. Marvel isn't accurate. They fought in many battles when they were young, and that's why Odin tolerates him. The only reason I can think of is because Bragi is associated with peace, Loki (as someone who loves chaos) hates the levelheadedness and order Bragi represents.
