Brahms' great First Symphony... maestro Ozawa have played it many times, it is one of his core repertoire having repeated again & again, he is familiar with every notes of this awesome piece. Saito Kinen Orchestra, a bunch of Japanese army gave electrifying performance under Ozawa's baton, you'll hear Brits shouting bravo in ecstacy right after the music is over. Bravo Ozawa-san, you're great, we are proud of you !!

I'm just now reading the book by Murakami about Master Ozawa, with all the interviews they had together. Marvellous, I highly recommend it!

Wonderful! Seiji Ozawa ranks, IMO, as one of the greatest conductors of the 20th c. and thankfully he is still with us.!

6:50--- Timpani arranged the original score. This part is the check point of the conductor's reasoning of this symphony.

I've watched & listened to it 2 years after I first found this video and it still gives me a goose-bump. A monumental performance, Ozawa setting the Brahms' score ablaze. If there's such a moment which a man emerge himself into a 'flame' engulfed in his own passion, I think t'is is such a moment. Most enthusiastic bravo again.

Yes I watched this on tv back then, and if I remember correctly, the violinist at 1:10, 1:17, 8:24.....he is blind. Suwanai must be in this team at her school age. What an orchestra.

Is it any wonder that some, in Brahm's day, referred to this as Beethoven's Tenth?
From the standing stall and Henry Wood's sculpture at the back, I suppose this is 1990's BBC Proms. You might find proms archive somewhere, but they seldom release on DVDs.
