20:23 | This is the hardest, most superb, and brilliant I have ever seen to an introduction of a cadenza. The way Sergey drops the bow on the violin and the spacing in between the octaves symbolizing the theme of the first movement. The Joachim cadenza is just the best when it comes to this violin concerto with Kreisler not too far behind. There are so many words I want to express about my enthusiasm in this cadenza but it has blessed me so much and it is such a pleasure listening to this recording. So much emotion and life and it doesn’t feel rushed at all. It is such a thrill.

This is in my recommendation for days and I ignored clicking on it a few times, thinking I’ve heard enough great interpretations of Oistrakh, Perlman, Heifetz ... I was dead wrong. I clicked on this, and was completely blown away! It’s the same Brahms concerto but the way Sergey phrased it makes it so new and breathtaking, as if the concerto is heard for the first time. His phrasing at 19:33 literally made me hold my breath until the phrase ended. That forth finger vibrato though! The camera and editing work is splendid and really capture everyone’s best moments. Thank you all for still making the concert happen in such hard times and sharing with the world such a high quality piece of art.
