Want to impress your dinner guests? This easy but delicious and impressive bread will do the trick! This braid blends a simple white with a hearty wheat and a dark rye to give your braid eye catching results!
Start out with:
2 1/4 cup of bread flour
2 Tble. Sugar
1 Tble. Salt
1 Tble. Yeast
1/4 cup butter, melted
2 1/4 cup warm water
Mix well and let sit 10 minutes. Add:
1 cup more of flour and mix well.
Divide dough into 3 separate bowls.
Rye Dough- add:
2 Tble. Molasses
1 tsp. Caraway seeds
1 Tble. Coco powder
1 1/4- 1 1/2 cups rye flour
Whole Wheat Dough- add:
2 Tble. Molasses
1 1/4- 1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour (hard red)
White Dough- add:
1 1/4- 1 1/2 cups bread flour
Cover and let rise 1 hour or until doubled in size. Divide dough into half and create 2 long snakes of dough from each kind. 15 to 18 inches in length. Braid 3 snakes of dough pinching the ends and folding under. (Makes 2 braids)
Cover with plastic wrap and let rise 45 minutes. Bake at 350 for 35 to 40 minutes.
