Does this work for both soft neck and hard neck garlic? do they preserve the same? or does one last longer than the other? which do you grow? Thank you for showing this! So pretty and useful!

Braiding is mostly good for softneck because hardnecks have, well, too hard of necks to bend into a braid. I've heard softnecks last longer than hardnecks in dry storage.

When you start using the garlic do you cut from the bottom or the top of the braid?
@AuxhartGardening

I usually start at the top, but no matter where you start it shouldn't unravel.

try using pure raw honey instead of vinegar;;;also i've used salt brine solution to ferment and preserve;;;utube has plenty experts on this so i just suggest for you for dried garlic we started using old pangy hose and cutting roots and tops as invariably somebody cut or pulled the wrong one out for use and the whole bunch went tumbling to the floor;;;;;lol;;;;lookin good there girl;;;;keep em comin;;;;;this ole man has actyally learned a lot from you even tho gardened for years;;;;had from two to five acres of maters for market each year;;; now that was fun;;;;;

I still have some on my braided garlic from last year, but the bulbs were small for me this year, so it's a good job I have reserves. I ordered new seed bulbs to put in this year.

Wow what was the type of garlic you grew here? Was it the variety that you grew that made it so large, or do you think they way your grew it and your specific climate helped to grow it that large?

This is dixon softneck from the Experimental Farm Network. I think it was the variety, because I grew another variety that stayed small. Although I did feed it very well with compost, and planted it in an area that had had beans in it previously.

Thank you! How long do these preserve like so? Thanks so much!

They seem to last for 4-6 months this way. Long enough to use as seed garlic to plant in November for me.

@@AuxhartGardening When you say 'last' do you mean they are still edible for 4-6 months, or at the 4-6 month mark, they can only be used for seed garlic planting the next season?
