The story is:
In a kingdom where humans and animals lived together, the Princess kept refusing all marriage suitors including the tortoise, and told the worried king that the man that would marry her should bring the elephant so that she would be riding on its back during festivals. The tortoise went and told the elephant that the King is organising the Ofala festival and has appointed the elephant the chairman of the occasion. The elephant was so happy and hoped rhat would give him a chance to ask for the hand of the princess. He promised to come and lead him to the festival. On the fateful day, the tortoise tricked the elephant to let him ride on his back since he is small and slow, so they would get to the occasion on time. He asked the elephant to permit him to put a rope around the neck so he could hold on tight. As they got there, the villagers were shouting in excitement, and the tortoise sang 'my king, I have brought the elephant'. The elephant asked what he was saying, and the tortoise lied that he said, 'Let the land guide and protect the elephant, the elephant is the festival chairman, so elephant, go ahead, we are behind you'..... Finally, the king gave his daughter's hand in marriage to the tortoise as he brought the elephant according to the challenge.
Gwo Gwo Gwo Ngwo is the description of the loud trembling noise made on the ground by the walking elephant.
In Igbo folklore, the tortoise is regarded as the wisest and most cunny of all animals.
