One of the most frequent questions I get re archetypes... Both your audience and your brand are archetypes because archetypes represent all personalities. The key is to identify the characteristics your audience is attracted to and develop your personality around the archetype that displays them 👍

To me that’s the glaring examples EDIT: I watched the rest of the video where you brought Apple up as it relates to the creator. 14:25 ah, quick correction: neither vegans nor vegetarians are interested in purity or naturality. Thats actually true in the technical sense, because, just as Jonathan Haidt points out in his framework of moral dimensions, Purity is one of the moral dimensions that conservatives and high testosterone males are interested in. These people do not tend to be vegans and vegetarians, however, those who are definetly are interested in safety, but not because of a desire for naturality (the natural state of the world) but rather because they view the world through a framework of consent, as a defense mechanism. A person, who holds purity as a moral standard will ask himself "Is my action morally acceptable" wheras a someone who does not, such as a vegan for example, will ask himself "Will others think that what im doing is OK?". Vegans are, as a point of principle not interested in living in a natural state. not only is their food as unnatural and ultra processed as possible, but their conceptualization nature also has nothing to do with the reality of said nature.

These archetypes all interest me, and I can see all of them in me to one extent or another, so let's go over each of them to see here... OUTLAW: I am a devout symbolic Satanist and I enjoy exploring taboo discussions. I also act ornery around authorities and drive like a maniac every time I'm behind the wheel. There's some passive aggression in there too. MAGICIAN: This one is admittedly quite dark. I am serious about topics related to gaslighting and narcissism and I have an inner friendly encouragement to "try them out". HERO: In my case, more like a neurotic, obsessed cutthroat. I would best describe my hero complex with the idiom "nothing gets between a hawk and his prey". I am a terrible loser and am prone to blaming my team in the moment, but winning is a huge source of grandeur for me. LOVER: Deep, dark fantasy. This is my inner vampire that wants to seduce people with honeyed words, rip their throats out for their blood, and leave without a trace. It has a feminine presentation with masculine undertones or vise versa. I also like decadent 1920s stuff and I find Alastor from _Hazbin Hotel_ to be a highly attractive ideal. JESTER: This is what I want to be, but grieve due to the perceived sternness of the people around me. It is really difficult to think of good humor on the spot; I am usually too afraid of cracking a joke because most of the ones in my head are quite malicious and could get me ostracized. EVERYMAN: I have a bad relationship with this one. I use this one as my primary persona to survive a society I view as uninteresting and unaccepting of difference, but as much as I enjoy the in-the-moment safety it offers, it ultimately makes me a resentful people pleaser. CAREGIVER: This one is painful and I want nothing to do with it. RULER: This one is quite strong inside me, but this inner ruler is a sadistic tyrant that barks at fault and gets physical with the weak. As oppressive as it is in me, I want to turn into it. The problem is, I am constantly tortured by introjects that declare my weakness. Nevertheless, it sublimates through my brisk walking pace and commanding sentinel stance. I wrathfully despise people who are primarily this type. CREATOR: I grieve for this one. I want it badly, but I have waking nightmares that pursuing it would lead to my life being thrown down the tubes and me not creating something truly appreciated by others and myself both at once. INNOCENT: I am deeply ashamed of my innocence. I feel like a hurt child most of the time and I do everything to protect that inner child, but the fact that he feels pain and is emotionally sensitive makes me hate him with a blind rage. That being said, I see people on the autism spectrum as innocent and I will give PTSD to anyone that harms them. Well... Rest in peace to the other three paragraphs, and likewise many worthwhile edits. They disappeared into the internet somewhere, and I'm not going to go crazy wasting my time trying to retype them if I were to make more attempts.

Hey Levena. I have a Definitive Guide to Brand Personality which goes deeper into the process - Ill leave a link below. The answer to the challenge you have is actually in the question. If they could be anyone, then you’re not relevant enough to them. Drill down… Are they young, old, in urban or rural areas, with or without gardens, above 1 mil under 1 mil…what’s their journey and why is it different to other homeowners. Chances are you COULD service all these people, but that doesnt mean you SHOULD. When you become more relevant to a certain group of people, then you can refine your message and personality to who they are. THEN… they can see you above the crowd

For brands that have a clear negative aura (etc Ruler and Outlaw), how do you determine when their brand communication has crossed lines that may negatively impact the brand's image? How would you convince me to come, let alone stay, despite your brand's "red flags"?🙃
@BrandMasterAcademy
4 ай бұрын
Here’s a principal that will serve you well. Know your audience. It’s ok to negatively impact your brand image in the eyes of people who are not your target audience…. but not those who are. Eg Some rappers offend half the world, but they don’t care, because they’re not appealing to half the world. They know their following won’t get offended because they know who they are. If you’re in doubt that your target audience might also be offended, stop and reassess.

Brand archetypes are not a must… They’re just a tool to provide you with a solid foundation on which to build the brand personality. Though archetypes have little to do with your values…. your brand voice is a personality extension but should only be developed on a clearly defined brand personality Again, archetypes are not a necessity, but know the elements you’re building and what their contributions are. Hi Stephen, Hope you see this. Does your brand mastery course go hand in hand with digital marketing, or is it its own field/area of expertise career wise? Personal Branding, especially archetypes, is something I want to go deeper in to, and it's an area I've circled back to. I saw your iconicfox website but not sure if it's still active as copyright says 2020, but what caught my attention is that it was an Australian website, which was a big plus for me if I were to take the course. Also, Is it possible to be 2 archetypes instead of one as a primary and the other as a secondary? I seem to resonate a lot with Hero and Explorer. Hero because I'm a dad and into Martial Arts, and Explorer as I love learning and exploring, which I only realised recently was connected to trying to understand myself better and grow.

Exactly Brand Master Secrets provides you with the systems to develop the brand strategy which informs the overall marketing strategy. You can provide both services or just one. Personal branding is a growth space and archetypes are a great way to give individuals a sense of branding identity. Yes, it’s possible to have two archetypes. One would usually align with the audience and the other (more dominant), the brands role. If you’re looking for the processes to develop brand strategy for clients, then BMS will give you the systems 👍

Thank you for outstanding content. May I disagree with you about outlaw’s example, where I see the brave heart is a great example of hero more than outlaw, with the big believe and cause he is fighting for his people. The outlaw ppl are selfish whereas heroes not. There’s a movie for Travolta about Harley Davidson, as a good example of outlaw. Thanks again 🙏🏻

This is a bigger argument about freedom fighters... hero to one, outlaw to another... all based on the perspective... Whose laws are being broken?

@@BrandMasterAcademy Thank you for your reply... in this case, maybe I choose a brand archetype upon my values and perspective for my company, but it seems something else from the target audience's point of view. At the end of the day, the brand is what people say about you, not what you say about yourself. and If I want to create a specific perception, I have to work to deliver whatever it takes to people's minds about my brand Archetype. and still, the archetype is debatable but whats make it solid, is when the company and people perspective are matching, this be the real brand archetype.

Hey Stephen, what do you think of the Storybrand framework? Do you think it's the opposite of this archetypes thing?
@BrandMasterAcademy

I like Storybrand though I use a different Storytelling framework for the brands I build. Story and personality are not opposites. They work in tandem. Every story / film is full of archetypes

Yes you can mix archetypes but no more than two or you'll dilute the impact

Hi there It seems you’ve previously downloaded the checklist previously which is why it hasn’t resent. Not to worry... Here’s the email ____________________________ This is it, The Brand Archetypes Checklist you asked me to shoot over to you. brandmasteracademy.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/brand-master-academy-archetypes-checklist-2.pdf It's short, to the point and actionable... you're gonna love it! These are the processes we use in our agency to develop brands with personality. I recommend printing it out and keeping it handy anytime you want clarity on connecting with your audience on a human level. But remember, the knowledge is useless unless you put it to action. If you like this then you're gonna love the actionable brand strategy insights to come. Cheers, Stephen """"the archetypical"""" Houraghan

Can a brand be based on multiple archetypes or does it have be only one?
@BrandMasterAcademy
11 ай бұрын
Absolutely, a brand can explore multiple archetypes, usually with one dominant. It might be useful to study brands with a successful blend of archetypes for a richer narrative while keeping a clear identity.

Very well explained and articulated. Thank you. Just a quick one: How do you pick 1 archetype when there's 3 that resonate?
@BrandMasterAcademy

Consider the role your audience is looking for in the brand and use the archetype that’s most relevant (out of the 3 one should stand out as more relevant)

Every time it feels like it can't get any better it does - this is the gift the keeps on giving. Saw different characteristics to some of the these that I would not have thought of myself :))))))) "IF" you have time to answer a quick question, could you please tell me if you are trying to work out your audience's archetype do you want to know who they are as a person, or who they are in the role as your customer for example, as a bride? :))))))

There is no should, but in my opinion, you should communicate with personality, therefore you can use archetypes to provide your personality with structure

Thanks a lot for clarification the basics of Brand Archetypes! I'm just confused about few things, like, William Wallace is called an Outlaw, but can't he be a Hero at the same time? The same question for The Gladiator, he is called Hero but I suppose he can be called as an Outlaw too. And Gandalf is an obvious Magician (literally), but isn't he supposed to be called as a Sage as well? Should brands (or people) be only one archetype? Or can they have 2-3 different archetypes at the same time? Much appreciation if you could find time to clarify. Best!
@BrandMasterAcademy

You're spot on... many attributes are relevant to multiple archetypes and William Wallace (Outlaw) / Marcus Arelius (Hero) are similar characters... How you want your audience to see your brand (and what actives them / turns them on) is critical... You dont have to choose one... you can mix archetypes through it's important to limit this to avoid confusion

I had the exact same question. I created a character for our brand persona and I called it “The Sound AF Teacher” - they’re kinda, sage/caregiver/every man. When I think of their personality I used the big 5 (factor analysis) as that’s the most reliable personality typing tool we have in modern behavioural sciences (which is also where our brand is based). But I can see why using archetypes is an easier way to explain a character if we want to outsource writing etc. I was worrying coz I thought I had to just choose one… like “but the sound AF teacher can’t be pigeon holed!” 😂🙈
