Unfortunately, I did not have the positive experience that others have reported. Played a theatre in the Buffalo NY area, and started getting dropouts as soon as sound check started. Ended up using the house ULXD system with no issues. Sent the GLXD+ back immediately and ordered a QLXD. Unfortunately, the only range available was V50 (174-216), and had similar dropouts in Myrtle Beach. Ended up borrowing (and later buying) an Audio Technica mic in the regular UHF range from the house, which despite having a compander sounded better on our singer than the Shure SM58, Beta58A, and Beta87A mics he’s been using. In my opinion (and unfortunate experience) the tech is still not there. Oh, and at no point did we put any part of the GLXD+ in any puddles of water.
@ScottUhlMusic
Жыл бұрын
Haha well at least you didn’t put in water lol. Did you change channels and do the scan? Because ANY wireless will get interference if it’s set to the wrong frequency. But scanning very often fixes it. I’m surprised that two different systems on two different frequencies had problems. Although, some shows just have a LOT of RF going on, and even the strongest wireless systems have trouble with it. The ULXD is an incredible system, but almost 3x the price of this system.
@stevesheroan4131
Жыл бұрын
@@ScottUhlMusic Yeah, we scanned twice, got a good signal for a few minutes, then more problems. One of the problems was that it was as if you could hear the unit switching between bands. Obviously it’s not fair to compare it to the ULXD, but in both instances UHF worked where other frequencies failed. The Audio Technica unit costs less than a GLXD+, and I’d personally trust it more at this point. Maybe I’m just cursed with all other wireless tech besides UHF, but I keep having the same experiences. 🤷🏼♂️

Hey, so wanted to comment quickly about the wifi router section. You probably won't get interference from a wifi router (or access point) unless someone is actually downloading from it. When a client is downloading, at that point the router becomes a transmitter which then can cause any other receivers near it to not be able to "hear" the signal they are supposed to. If you're just using the router for iem mixes, it probably wouldn't affect your wireless gear because the wifi traffic is pretty minimal. On the flip side, the audio transmitters can wreak havoc on wifi gear in close proximity because the wireless audio is constantly being transmitted. All this is not really taking into account frequency usage. If your wifi is on 2.4ghz and the glxd is using 5ghz, it would work better than if they are on the same band, of course. One thing I think could be problematic about the scanning feature is when wifi is turned on, but not really in use. Can the glxd+ see and avoid wifi networks when they aren't being used much? If not, it might scan and pick the same frequency as the wifi. And then later when you go to use wifi, there could be issues. Hopefully that makes sense.
@ScottUhlMusic
Жыл бұрын
Thanks for commenting! And if you have a wireless turned off and then someone else turns on a wireless in the same frequency (uhf or other), that can always cause an issue no matter what wireless you are using. But I love that this has a super fast and easy way to change channels if that does happen
@Albion12345
Жыл бұрын
@@ScottUhlMusic That definitely is an awesome feature. Since I work mostly in a fixed location, I prefer to manage channels and frequencies myself. But being able to change channels so easily during a gig could be a lifesaver! Thanks for all the great content!

Hey, I'm using the old GLXD4 with the B58. Since i've connected the UI24 Soundcraft connected with a router, i've got a lot of drop outs. Will this be fixed when buying the new GLXD+. The stuff is also in the same flightcase, will i need also a directional antenna?
@Albion12345
Жыл бұрын
@Wilhelmina Music Are using 2.4ghz or 5ghz on your wifi? The original glxd runs only on 2.4ghz. I would try using 5ghz on your wifi. If you can, login to your router and shut off the 2.4ghz altogether. If you can't, just make sure it has a password on that network and don't connect anything to it. If things are already connected, forget the network from each device. That way nothing ever connects to it again. But if you can shut 2.4ghz off on the router, that would be the easiest thing to do. If you still have problems with everything connected to the 5ghz wifi, try moving the router farther away from the glxd receiver.

I really dig the Sure stuff. I use the older GLX with the pedal receiver and love it. Reliable and built like a tank. The only other odd thing for me... I can't mount the transmitter to my strap on my back and have the pedal receiver on my board in front of me. There's something about me that interferes with the signal and causes static / breaks the signal. If I set the receiver up at the amp then it works great. I haven't heard of anyone else with this issue. For everyone else it seems to work fine.
@ScottUhlMusic
Жыл бұрын
That’s interesting. It could be a dropout issue since the old model is just on 2.4ghz. I know I say “keep line of sight” but one person (you) in front of the transmitter and receiver isn’t enough to cause problems. I think the new one will work better in general because of the dual band frequency 🤘
@crocholiday
Жыл бұрын
@@ScottUhlMusic Yea, it's pretty weird lol. I realized when I'd get static or interruption in the signal and turned my back to the board the interference stopped. So, I moved it behind me and haven't had an issue since. Everyone emits a small electrical field. Only thing I can think is mine is odd somehow and causing interference. I was pondering upgrading to the table top flavor for a more permanent solution. I can't help but think the antenna will be a better receiver than the pedal. Added bonus, I can use my old pedal receiver for my standup bass since I won't be in front of it. I just have to figure out how to get Sweetwater to give me one too haha.

The scan feature is cool. Although i never mind searching for a frequency during sound check for my sennheiser IEMs, it's part of my routine. I'm looking to upgrade my wireless guitar (currently use the nux 5.8) later this year or next year. This glxd+ seems cool but at this price point kinda seems like it'd be better to go for slxd. I think I'm gonna bite the bullet and just go qlx or ulx (wish i could just do it right now) Great videos as usual. Look forward to the next

@@ScottUhlMusic Got it. Definitely not a deal breaker. My understanding from the previous version, and I’m assuming they kept this with the new one was that it already knew other frequencies that didn’t have interference and whenever interference came it would switch channels automatically.
