Pete you can simply use a pliers to slip the keeper off of the master link and do the same to put it back on. Just put one side of the pliers on the post of the master link and the other on the split end of the keeper and squeeze it will pop off for you. When putting it back on set it in place so the split end of the keeper is against the post and put the pliers on the other end of the keeper and on the other post and squeeze.

Pete...my dad always said, “They don’t make things like they used to.” That was back in the 1960’s. And, I think he was right. I don’t ever remember breaking a shear pin or throwing a chain on my snow shovel! On the other hand, I do remember frozen toes and a cold butt... quickly warmed with a few strokes of the paddle to assist me in getting back out to finish. Persist my friend... you’ll get back to your happy place.

I have a new BX2380 and the 55” commercial blower and a 60” back blade and I think they are a great tractor and blower. I’ve blown out 4-5 driveways early in the morning this winter and had no issues whatsoever. I broke a shear bolt but it was because I hit the curb buried in the snow. The blower throws the snow so far I have to lower the hydraulic deflector to manage the distance. I had a John Deere LA110 with a Deere blower and I wasn’t happy with the blower at all. I moved up to an X310 with a Berco blower and after some initial issues with the blower I ran it trouble free for 4 years and it put the Deere blower to shame. The Berco blower was chain driven and it never let me down. Last winter we got around 14’ of snowfall and it was a chore for the X310 soI decided to move up to a larger tractor and I looked at the John Deere 1025 but I didn’t like the blower so I settled on the BX2380 and the 55” commercial blower. You’ll like the 55” commercial blower just remember to offset the auger ends at the gear case 180 degrees to each other when repairing broken shear bolts.

The trick that always works for me on master link clips: squeeze master link with pliers if possible to expose the master link pin grooves, hang inner end of clip on the groove on one side, pivot the clip up and hang one end of the open side in the other groove(need to push the side you're seating down a bit so it bites the groove ), then finally use a pick or screwdriver to pull the remaining side of the open end up and over the pin and into the groove. Should snap nicely into place. This method isolates the axis you're working with one at a time and saves you the stab wounds.

Bad luck, Hope the new one works out for you. My JD is 27 years old, tractor and blower (plus more). Just cleaned up the last snow, drive way and road to the shop etc. Only problem I ever had was the tension arrangement for the chain. I welded up a small mod and life has been good. Keep her greased and check the tension often first few hours of use.

When we run our tub grinder in the winter for the cattle we idle down the tractor and then turn on the PTO so the PTO or chain won’t slip. Also if your running it in a wet environment which obviously you are make sure to grease your chain every so many house or refer to the manual.

A chain snapping sucks. I have the same machine as you, cab and all. No problems at all with the blower going into the second season. After you put the chain on you should have gave it little bath in chain bar oil. The stuff you use in your chain saw. Sticks like **** to a blanket and redo it every 4 hours of use. Also in the blower manual there is a procedure for checking the chain tension. Might have been a rare dud of a chain you had there. As for the shear pins you could always put grade 8 bolts in and take you chances lol. They're there for a reason. Luckily I haven't snapped one. Maybe just slow down. Prior to this tractor I had a Simplicity garden tractor with a belt driven single stage blower. It lasted me 36 years. We didn't need no stinking shear pins. Just waited for the belt to squeal like pig and then back out of it. Good luck with the rest of the winter.

Best par about this video was the John Deere gloves! That is absolute BS you have to buy a commercial anything for your every day home use. I bought a X738 and I'm beyond impressed with everything it does. Wondering if you regret getting rid of yours now. Once I pay off my 0% for 72 month loan on the 738 I'm going to buy a 3000 series for a loader, brush hog, PTO, blade and everything else while keeping the 738 for mowing. My 54"JD blower is phenomenal best $3000 I've ever spent. Wish you all the best and hope after one full season of disappointments you come back to the Green Side.

I have a feeling I know what caused your shear pin and chain issues. Your Left and Right Augers are on incorrectly. They mirror each other but should be 180 degrees opposite each other. When they're mirrored (as it is on your blower now) they both feed snow from each side into the auger/chute at the exact same time. That causes an excess of snow to enter the main auger/chute, which can overload it. When they're 180 apart from each other, one side feeds snow followed immediately by the other side, which doesn't over load the main auger/chute. Take the shear pin off one of the augers, rotate 180 degrees and replace shear pin.... Ask me how I know...LOL

Thanks for the heads up. A couple guys have given me the heads up and I have since swapped it
@oldenglish8129

That could very well be the cause of breaking shear pins and the chain. Because it is out of sync there would not be a steady flow of snow into the impeller. It would throw a big clump in, then rotate 360 degrees and throw another big clump in, instead of throwing half that size clump every 180 degrees of rotation.
