I KNOW WHEN PEOPLE THINK -ELECTRIC FRETLESS BASS THEY , THINK JACO PASTORIUS WHOM YOU CAN NOT TAKE ANYTHING AWAY , BUT FOR ME -PERCY JONES HAS DONE MORE FOR THE FRETLESS BASS IN TERMS OF SONIC EXPLORATION EVEN AS FAR BACK THE BAND BRAND X . HIS PLAYING HAS ALWAYS BEEN CREATIVE ,AND DONE WITH HUMILITY.

John Doe Just to add to your statement. He’s also always played with “out of the box” thinking. Radically differant than any other bass player. So underrated!!!!

Furthermore, Percy was on Brian Eno's Another Green World album, playing fretless on a major record a full year before Jaco's 1st major recording (Pat Metheny's Bright Size Life).

100% - Percy and Mick are two creative artists that happened to chose fretless electric bass as a medium of expression . Very unique approach and style. They both indirectly sold a lot of Wal Basses RIP Mick!!

Percy Jones is an original. The sounds he gets out of his bass are astounding. This is a guy who could do a movie soundtrack just using his fretless bass. He gets that much personal expression.

Want more? Check out Brand X, a fusion group from that era. Amazingly undated and still relevant ( to me anyway). Thoughtful and imaginative. And weird. Smacks of euphoric hysteria.

one of my bass idols. wish he broke out his Wal bass. the bass he's playing is cool but it sounds like a 100% piezo setup that makes it sound like an upright. when he was hitting harmonics they wouldn't ring out
