The funny thing about watching Game of Thrones, which i only did recently, was that it actually sounded like a 90s fantasy book. They got the language right. It wasn't a Hollywood impression of a fantasy story, it was clearly written, at least in the early seasons, by people who actually read and enjoy fantasy books, go to conventions, know the genre. Wheel of Prime, on the other hand, is a weird impression written by people who've just heard of the authors (maybe). Red Eagle is also to blame for a lot of this.

I think saying that "They did some things really well" was him being very generous and diplomatic. You could see in the first few minutes what they were going to do to the show. I've never had my enthusiasm for something killed so quickly in my life.

Great editing. Great takes. Excellent 'receipts' on that original Season 1 Rafe Judkins script- it really was a Game of Thrones meets Star Wars in Paris with an R-rating sh!tshow. October 2021 Sanderson dropped his first 'soft' criticisms of what Rafe decided to do before the show dropped, in particular Perrin and Mat. He repeated those same criticisms months after S1 ended. Season 2 WOT was one of the most incomprehensible, unwatchable and brain-hurting mess of eight hours of television I have ever experienced. Set aside anything to do with Robert Jordan or Wheel of Time- Season 2 WOT was utterly devoid of even a semi-coherent narrative, any semblance of character development and some of the most pathetic fight choregraphy ever put on screen. The Nielsen documented watch hours / viewer completion from Season 1 show a 60+% loss Episode 1 to the finale. Season 2 never achieved the same views/hours as the low point of Season 1, and in fact lost another 60% of that originally hugely diminished audience. Let us all pray Season 3 ends of this despicable non-adaptation.

Bastardization of the source material
@saldiven2009
4 ай бұрын
The current WoT is another example of an all-too-common problem in the entertainment industry: A producer/director/writer's belief that they can do it better than the original source material. Considering the 100+ year history of movie/TV adaptations being definitively worse than the source material, you'd think that _someone_ at an executive level would crack the whip and tell them, "Just stay as true to the source material as you possibly can. The source material has already proven itself to be popular, successful, and lucrative. Don't take unnecessary risks by deviating from it." Edit: Honestly, I wonder how Judkins got the OK to be in charge of handling a project of this size. I'm looking at his IMDB, and it's surprisingly thin. For serialized content, he has a writing credit for 28 episodes of five different series spread out over seven years. The only meaningful production credit he has is Agents of SHIELD. I honestly don't think Judkins has the chops to handle this kind of a project.

He doesn’t have the mindset to handle adaptations with any sort of class or respect. And to be frank about it, both WoT and GoW should not be ran by people in the lgbt. It’s a conflict of interest honestly bc the entire premise of WoT goes against their ideology, therefore we all know they are going to make some radical changes. And GoW is another very straight man’s kind of character. It’s pretty ridiculous to give it to a person like Rafe Judkins. Imagine the opposite happening and the outrage it would cause. He doesn’t have the professional chops either but even if he did, he should never have been chosen for these projects.

I want to offer some criticism of the video: I agree with the other post that your takes are solid, it's quality content for this area. I don't think the editing is great - it's properly creative but could be technically done in better ways. You should take the next steps to improve your content. The main thing to keep is your authenticity, there's something about being the fan who's dedicated, just a normal person, making videos from their room. Quality of your takes are solid, room for delivery improvement. A frame of some sort, better usage editing for cuts (all easy stuff to learn solo) to make it look more ... "pro-amateur", someone who's spends a good chunk of their time and effort - they're not just a fan doing this from their room but a dedicated fan with serious insight and put in not just the effort but throw some cash at it as well. Could easily see this channel growing multiple times in size from where it is now. Just small things. Keep taking more steps.

Agreed, Shallan was awful and I got very tired of Kaladin's struggles with PTSD. Love Sanderson and still loved the books 3 and 4, but I was struggling with the main character's mental health problems, they just went on and on and on...realistic: maybe. Fun to read: ehhh, not so much. Amazon's WOT, I made it to episode 6...I can't even hate watch the series at this point.

Hopefully book 5 will be the conclusion of them. It is the end of the first part and Shallan isn't going to keep dodging what ever lingers in her past. Kalladin being unable to accept that he can't save everyone was the big thing that was driving his depression, him not saving the king during book 3 was hampering his recover and now that he has accepted the 4th ideal he should be on the road to getting better.

I would say that I agree with you that Brandon is giving more credit to Rafe than deserved but just because he is the original writer listed doesn't mean he didn't fight for Brandon's version of the Perrin stuff. I guess I just think that Brandon had a more first hand experience with what happened than most other people and somebody allowing their name to be put on something doesn't mean they didn't fight for something else. Still, Rafe's public commentary definitely paints the other bad story decisions as very deliberate. Also, being said I don't think you are wrong to point it out as a possibility since we haven't really heard any details on how Brandon knew that Rafe went to bat for him. I just don't like people talking in absolutes without acknowledging the possibility of the other side being true and I think in this case there is enough possibility in it to not discount it automatically. And honestly, from everything I've heard from Brandon on podcasts and panels, I 100% believe he is much more charitable to people than they necessarily deserve.

Let’s say that Rafe did try to fix this shows problems, Amazon wouldn’t agree to it. Because the Algorithm told them that this is how WOT needs to be made, to make people on the internet happy. And it’s doing badly because they’re pissing off book fans, and the show is so poorly done, that nobody on X is going to care. Just with ROP, but Amazon already paid for 5 seasons of that show. Rammy Park is the only good writer on the show and S2 episode 6 was the only great episode of the entire show. And she did a great job with the WOT animated shorts, which Amazon put a stop too, because I guess it wasn’t trending well. 😂

They shut down the Animations because they were MORE popular than the show, not to mention they were book accurate and mentioned lore already retconned in the show. Heyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyya - look, this Shallan stuff has to stop. His early series stuff with her issues is not inaccurate at all, it's the integration stuff and the over-dramatised switching that is not portrayed super well, but it's also a fictional character in a made up world in a story so... you would EXPECT that. The way he has portrayed her mind fracturing and the functions of her compartmentalisation is not inaccurate, in my personal experience. Is this rare? Hell yes. Does it happen? Unfortunately, yes it does. Does is happen in such a dramatic insane way? Not that i've seen. Can it be remedied? To an extent, yes. Should we hold Brando to this kind of standard? No. Do people bring their pre-suppositions about what they think they know about these sort of things to a reading experience? Absolutely. He should have wrapped up her personality arc in book 3, or at least stabilised it to function effectively - that's where the error is. At least someone in his working group has accurately described the mechanics of how the mental split happens - for that individual. I'm sure there's as many different flavours of this condition as there are drops in an ocean, but the coincidence of what he has portrayed making complete sense to me, someone on the other side of the world who has personal experience with this, is clearly not Coincidence at all. Love ur work man, carry on - I just had to clarify this.
