RIP Pete, for anyone who isn't aware (I'm sure most are) he actually adlibbed this speech as he couldn't get the emotion across he wanted from the one written as part of the script. Some of the band in the film we're actual members of the the band in real life and it brought some of them to tears on set, likewise the audience....that, my dear friends, is a proper actor. God bless Pete.

Also the final words of the album at the end of Scapegoats! This film is fantastic, and I am actually new to it, but 'Tubthumper' is also a phenomenal album. Its brilliance was overshadowed because of the commercial success of the 'Tubthumping' single (which I'm glad they got), so if you mention the album or the band, it gets a chuckle these days, but start to finish, it is one of my favorite albums of all time. They definitely introduced me to this movie, but it took me a long time to get here!

@James Henderson deindustrialisation happened because we joined the common market, and also a long story to do with the worldwide economic system being formed around the dollar in the 70s, which involved Germany cementing itself (with France's approval) as the industrial capital of Europe. Globalisation has since proved to be an even greater catalyst for this. Every governing party, red blue or yellow, has agreed with the state of direction since the early 70s

One of the greatest 'political' movies I've seen. Great music, the towering talent of the late Pete Postlethwaite, the sweet loveliness of Tara Fitzgerald and the anger every decent human being must feel at the callous destruction of the lives of ordinary people for ideological reasons. Capitalists, Marxists ... all a thoroughly bad lot.

Pete Postlethwaite was an amazing actor! You’ll recognize the lines of his speech from 0:24 to 0:34 as they were sampled at the beginning of the album version of Chumbawamba’s 1997 hit “Tubthumping”. However, what you most likely don’t know is that the band also sampled the part of the speech from 1:45 to 2:15, which can be heard at the end of the album’s closing track, “Scapegoat”.

I’ve been doing a lot of digging to figure out where all the outros came from, so glad I found out essentially two of them in one film! The knowledge of the whereabouts for the others have been very difficult to find. Like it took me forever to find the outro in the song “Outsider” came from the film “Raining Stones”. Hopefully I’ll uncover them all. It’s a fun little rabbit hole I got myself into! 😅

The writing, directing, cinematography, music, locations and acting from everyone were all top notch. It's certainly one of the most beautiful and powerfull social movie that i ever seen in my life. A movie like our british friends (i'm french) know to do. M. tatcher impulsed a terrible war against workers in Great Britain during the 80' years. Now this politic, who advantage the rich peoples against the poor peoples, is extended to all Europe. We have to be strongers against these reactonary politics. I perfectly remember the coal strike in UK, it was in 1983, maybe 1985. I was young, my father was a miner too. I was young, and i gave my pocket money to french trade unions for britain strikers. Not so much, but if all french children gave their pocket money...
