Im happy that after all your years of sharpening you still stumbling across issues with scissors you have sharpened. I feel pressure that we all have to be perfect and there is no mistake after we sharpen. Thanks for being human Bonnie god bless you and you are growing a generation of sharpeners!

The very first sharpeners jam I attended, the guy from oster was there and he was talking about sharpening these “chunker” style shears. He mentioned to sharpen the tooth side at 25° and the guillotine side at 35°. I have done that ever since. Breaking down what you did, I feel that you may have dulled the shears after sharpening them. If I’m going to be cutting off the burr, I would sharpen the tooth side first and cut it off, since they are going to be left more “toothy”. Then sharpen the guillotine side and run them out as normal. When you cut the burr into your finished edge, I believe you dulled them. When I’m working with a pair that is giving me trouble like this, always take the time and make sure to take out any short cuts that you have incorporated and go back to the basics. This go for shears and clipper blades. I always use rabbit pelt to test shears and clipper blades. Anything less imo is a short cut. They don’t cut paper towels and teddy bears, they cut hair. Rabbit pelt is very fine and it won’t let you cheat.

Bonnie. I'm flabergasted that you don't buff the edges on the solid blades. It can make a huge difference. Polishing on a felt pad with Blue Japanese grit will make you smile.

I will try that. I’ve got the blue polish and intended to shoot a video comparing with the white, but I’m concerned it’s not aggressive enough and it will slow me down. I think coming more from a stylist sharpening background than groomers, I tend to get obsessed with avoiding push.

but if she puts a new bumper in on her own won't there be a problem of the shears closing all the way at the tips?

That same thought occurred to me as well, but I don't think so, because the bumper was already there and as I recall it was in good shape or I would have replaced it. I don't think I would miss it twice. However, she emails me on a regular basis and I sent her this link to this video plus one with the bumpers replacement. If it doesn't work, she will let me know I'm sure and I'll comment here and let you know.

It's not the motor bearings. It the loose spatter guard. I get the left-overs here. LOL
