Gray lost his left arm by a German tank shell in World War II, which led him being cast as Mark Sabre in the show of the same name, purely becuase the producers liked the originality of a one-armed detective.

I recall watching this series in the early 1960s on my parents old Black and White 16 inch TV it always came on around 9pm on a Thursday night. At the same time we also had Edgar Lustgarden investigates, he opened the programme explaining the plot. He was a famous criminologist and would sum up at the end of each programme. With the old Sherlock Holmes, Basil Rathbone series on as well it showed criminals were more devious, rather than the overplay of violence that came decades later. The 1960s and 70s really were simpler times to live through.

First time I ever heard of this show. The title of the episode wasn't given until the end, The Hour of Reckoning. Episode 13 of season six. Must've been a popular show, there were 221 episodes. Unsurprisingly, the actor who played Kasley died of a heart attack at age 49.

Ridiculously contrived. In the immortal words of Tuco, "if you want to shoot, shoot, don't talk." Kessler should have just taken his revenge without this baroque setup that was of no benefit to him. Poor story writing.

My father drove a Bren Gun Carrier during the war, he was in the Kings Own Scottish Borderers at the battle of Caen. He was called to go foward and pick up an officer who had been wounded that had been standing on or beside a tank when it was hit. The officer was put on a stretcher across the carrier and they took him back to the aid station. He was Donald Gray, dad said Gray was "In a bad way, really knocked up". He was pleased to see Gray on TV in later years doing well.

Exactly! The deal was that the kid wouldn't need to forfeit his life unless he failed to pay back the money within 30 days, and we weren't told if that time period had passed, whether the kid could borrow some money to repay the debt, or what. Sloppy writing, if you ask me.
