This happened to a neighbour's Ford transit while he was in a lidl store. Everything gone. Hilti, makita, dewalt tools etc... As a steel fabricator, Van's are a tin box. A cordless device with a low noise level & you can peel the steel open like a banana. So, an alarm system is essential.

@@garygranato9164 Yep. There is always a design consideration. You want to minimize cost of ownership (read: gas/petro mileage), you reduce weight where you can. Yeah. I think you are a real cynical man. Or maybe there have been hundreds (thousands) of hours of design review sessions, mockups, production capability meetings, joint testing etc., to make sure that the deployed security system seems authentic enough while still containing an ingeniously designed weakness--all so that Ford can invest more to rush out remedies to address unfavorable press and declining goodwill just so they can sell new door fittings--because Ford Motor has always wanted to be the the number one after-market door security company. Sure.

Brian Coady I don’t see Ford rushing out remedies to all the effected vans. They may build it into their new products but there are 1000’s of their old vans driving around with inferior security. The security issues are incredibly simplistic despite as you said “hours of design review sessions, production capability...

Yep a ballache, but it has to be done. However, the last two times I got mine robbed was in the middle of the working day, once (18 months ago) when I stopped off to pick up some timber and it got robbed on the car park and emptied of around 3k of gear and secondly, I parked to go buy a sandwich and had the van robbed and emptied again (around 2k gone) Nightmare! so even if your van is emptied overnight, they know it's full during the day. I think they follow trade vans and just wait for their opportunity. Police caught the 1st bunch, it was an organised gang and they lifted over 60k of stuff over two days. Nothing got recovered, they got their hands slapped and police advised me against seeking personal recovery against them as they were claiming "no fixed abode" and my Court Claim would include my personal details and they (the police) knew that previous Claimants against them had been "persuaded" to drop their claims. I guess the added security has to be considered, I was dumb to think I wouldn't get hit twice :-(

Literally empty it every night pull it off the fence when I park it so they can easily get round the back and I leave both back doors unlocked....like the local policeman said to me there not after stealing the van there after tools. All the damage I've ever had done has been from either trying to get in the van to move it off the fence from me parking it up tight to the back doors or damage to the side door and back doors from getting into it. I have to say touch wood it's worked they seem to be leaving me alone now. I'm happy for them to get in the back to see there's nothing in there....nothing else works so why not.

What these van manufacturers are selling is just not good enough. Commercial vehicles have been a target for thieves for years, yet they continue to do nothing meaningful about vulnerabilities. Why should we have to spend £k’s fixing a problem that shouldn’t even exist. Ford are probably the worst culprit, but none of the current manufacturers seem to be taking this seriously. If all commercial vehicles had better physical security as standard, there would be a lot less thieving from them.

Problem with tool theft is demand. Who buys nicked tools? Other tradesman off course 😁 This cycle of theft will sadly continue. Look at the usual market places like Shpock etc. Nicked tools jump out and you. Seeing who buys them is just as visible.

Thank God for Lidl and Aldi cheap tools bringing down the cost of tools discouraging theft. here in ireland we have new unvetted visitors coming here every week. Old cars and vans are stolen for export. Our prisons are full and ireland is now seen as a place of opportunity to commit crime without the chance of deportation. Our government have closed down many rural farming area Garda ( police stations ) causing many young irish farmers to just give up and emergrate. Only to have the family farms being sold to big international farm groups. The insurance companys owned by the banks are only happy to sign new mortgage on the family farm for new farm machinery. I could go on but it just depress me to much. You guys don't know how lucky you will be after brexit being able to control who comes into your country.

Its the same on building sites, tooled up to burn into the steel containers, JCBs hacked and driven away, boilers fitted one day, removed the next day. Where I live now, I have not locked my house or car for 5yrs, no theft at all, Buddism must be the way forward hahaha

eyecatcher I lived in Thailand for 15 years and moved back to UK in 2016, I had to learn to lock doors again, for 15 years I’d been leaving the keys in my ignition all night and only locking house doors if we went away for a time. It’s different in tourist areas that attract thieves, but most of Asia there is no such thing as car crime or theft from vehicles.

some are easier than others. The Transit set a new standard in vulnerability because it was so easy to disable the alarms and by-pass the ignition lock.

@jonwelch564

@@SkillBuilder yes they are steel, but it's the lowest grade Turkish steel, soft as toffee. I knelt on the edge of the roof tying stuff to the roof rack and I didn't realize it was denting the edge, I now have a load of shallow dents down the sides of the roof which are visible from the ground. VWs and Mercs are made from much stronger steel.

Presumably, Transit security is much better than it was twenty or thirty years ago, so the overall figures must be on the decline.

That takes no account for the huge rise in this kind of crime, much of it perpetrated by overseas gangs who see the U.K as the land that keeps on giving. With no effective police force and lenient sentencing if they do get caught the worst that can happen is they meet an angry builder and, as we all know, it is the builder who ends up in prison.

What you do bro 😎, put a fake stickers, removals , or delivery van , no one bothers these days to read your van or what it looks like , because end of a day people want the job done when you attend to their property.

They have never been the best for security wasn’t there a trick for the mk6 where you cut through the wiring at the back door and it unlocked failing that just buy a £30 Ford pick and your in

It isn't even as difficult as cutting through the door. There is a way of opening all the locks and turning off the alarms.

@@SkillBuilder I know of many tricks used I’ve had a lot in for repairs wiring looks broken locks due to the picks being jammed. Manufacturers of the vehicles need to do more. I would rather a vehicle with Amazing security over the vehicles being produced with fancy screens and lights in the dash and doors instead it’s a after thought which results in people losing there lively hoods

Make a sticker advertising the shield so you can put it on the door, so thieves won't tear up the skin for nothing.

Best way to protect your tools is not to leave them in a ford transit. There security is an absolute joke my mk7 was just taken like they owned the fucking thing. I’m sure there locks and immobilisers are designed by 3 year olds in a nursery keeps the cost down

The drivers door lock was shite on the older Transit Custom because they put a screwdriver in it and even went through the double lock as well but the newer one has failed against them as my dad has had a base model from 2015 and now has a 19 reg custom limited spec and loves it but after a month or two some asswipe went for the drivers door lock again. Fortunately the lock didn't give in like the last one did but they must of been really fucking stupid robbers as my dad has a proper lock on both the sliding door and the two rear doors (the lock looks like you front door lock so they cant walk up to it with a screwdriver and act like its there van) so they must of wanted the van as a whole.
