Lars, I get it much better now. Good explanation. Components vs Bodies. One of the first videos of yours I watched was the conduit box that you showed at the begining. Til now if I were explaining to someone bodies/components I wouldn't do very well. But now I could. Cheers, bil

Well done Lars. Very helpful! BTW - that "Stagger" on the saw's teeth is called the "set" of the teeth.

Interesting concept. I can see how breaking rule #1 could speed up the job of someone who renders. For example, if all I want is a 3D model of the blade so Bob The Builder can use it to saw some virtual wood then option #2 would be way quicker for an illustrator who cares less about function than looks.

As components and bodies grow in a file, I assume that if the Design History is on it increases the overhead/file size. Can you turn off the Design History on a Sub-Component? I see that you can cycle the Design History on the main component to clear the history.

Thanks for another great video. Must say that helps alot . Maybe one day you can highlight what you can do in Bodies that can not do components and visa versa. Thanks again

When you copy in a sketch from another project you get all the dimensions for it, but does it also bring in the related defined parameters for the sketch? That other project may well have had lots of crucial parameters defined which were used in the creation of the original sketch, and you may well want to have those parameters brought over into the new project along with the sketch. But are they copied over?
@cadcamstuff

Hi Roger Garrett Thank you for watching! They are not. I think because they are linked to a dimension by name. Like d1, so if you brought it into another design it would interfere with that models d1. I don't understand all the stuff going on in the background, someone from the development team could probably give more insight

Many thanks Lars! I transited from SW following on your beginner video and adopted Rule 1 after a few trial and error and when the pain of the errors are too great you definitely stop breaking the rules. BTW while looking at this video you've explained at one point how to "Save a copy as" a new design. First my wife wonder why I express so much pleasure and enthusiasm while watering the garden. Second do you know why when you do this it add a remove feature at the end of the history? Thx again

Hi laurent muchacho Thank you for watching! Save as, should not add or remove features, but just grab what is in that components timeline....I think...I might need more coffee :-)

My bad I've worked it out! When I tested the save copy as I did it on a component that was combined and subsequently removed so when the new design is created from the component the last item of the history timeline was a remove. Practice, learn, repeat :-)

I'm new to Fusion360 and have a quick question (I bet many here can answer). I recently created a similar item (actually a human with a center body and two legs on each side). How exactly does the negative space where the handle meets the blade get made? I would assume that if the handle is its own component and that I do a symmetrical extrusion than that piece would be solid all the way through, no? Is the solution something Lars mentioned with working on bodies and subtracting things out. I may have skipped close to 180 live streams so excuse me if this had been covered. :) Happy 4th!!
@johngreen4184

One way would be to use the sketch of the blade to extrude cut the space from the handle (ie: select cut when extruding that blade shape through the body)

hey Lars, can you list some of the main things that can only be done with bodies and not components? I think I am going to adapt this rule #1 for most everything from now on but don't want to shoot myself in the foot should I wind up needing to do something that can only be done with bodies because there is no way to go back from a component to a body I think
