One of my VERY favorite movies from the 90's and among my favorites of all time! I always wondered if there were any deleted scenes (clips) filmed for this movie that were left out of the final cut. None of the DVD releases (to my knowledge) have had any on them in the bonus features. Are you aware of any that exist? Great job on this video! It was really interesting seeing the filming locations and cast photos then and now. 🙂

I always wondered if the bartender was in on it. We just don't know. I always found it weird when he said he was the only person who worked there.

The bartender of Belle’s Diner certainly wasn’t in on Amy’s kidnapping, no matter how much anyone thinks he was. He was just a guy with a “not my problem” attitude, and most of all, he was just overprotective of his business which is his diner. The man at the bank was just another town local of Brackett who was needing to speak with the manager for a car loan. Warren’s wife Arleen, however, was so clueless to what all was going on, until she opened the cellar and freezer and saw Amy in it. Thereby, she had to accept the harsh reality that her husband was, by and large, a criminal who was robbing and murdering people for years and was lying to her and Deke. The locals at Belle’s Diner were just regular country folk. And the reason they never seen Amy there, when she was supposed to go there to the payphone, was because Warren never took her there to start off with. He deliberately kidnapped her from the start and stashed her with Al. But the ones who were behind everything was Warren, Al, Earl, and Billy, and they were using that place and the remote sections of that country area to kidnap their victims one by one.

Good points, and your might be right there. With the town local at the bank, he asked if "you the bank manager?" so he didn't know him. I just think if he was a local surely they would recognise each other. But who knows lol, thats the beauty of the film, were always kept guessing.

i suppose Red and his gang chose places far away from their actual homes (in Utah as you surmised) so as local law enforcement in those places wouldnt really notice. It would just be out-of-staters and truckers passing through. Also, they tried to stay apart as much as possible, again to avoid looking like a gang in and around the town of Brackett. Barman and the locals werent in on it at all. Neither was the cop or guy in the bank. If bank guy was in on it, wouldnt he have gone back with the others to the Barr ranch, and then been involved in the subsequent car chase? Great movie overall and one of the best thrillers of its kind. I really loved the filming locations and that harsh desert light, the sense of isolation and the distances involved add to the panic being felt by Jeffrey. Reminded me somewhat of Spielberg's "Duel" which of course also involves a maniac and his truck. Nice video btw. Loved the filming sites, actor ages and the "fucking idiot" insert, implying that Red was cursing his 9 year old son 😅

Hey thanks for your feedback 🙂 Yeh it's one of my fav movies from then 90s. Similar to Duel, which I've seen too. You make good points. But I still somewhat think the bank guy was a hired gun by Redd, but you never know that's the beauty of the movie, it keeps you guessing. I thought it would be funny to add that insert lol. I don't know why, maybe cos he just ran off after getting the gift and not saying thank you lol.

If the banker was in on it, he would have told Redd that Jeff didn't withdraw anywhere close to $90k. Just some 100's and a bunch of ones, and that Jeff didn't have $90k in his account even.
@4exgold

@@coreyculton2422 I wasn't referring to the banker. It's the guy with the black leather jacket that appears to glance at Jeff quite a bit during those scenes. He's often perceived by fans of the film to be part of the Barr gang, keeping an eye on Jeff in case he squeals to the authorties whilst in the bank. It's a reasonable assumption I suppose, but the reason I dont think he's involved is cos the Barr gang are a tight knit group and would not trust an "outsider".

What chills me about this movie, is the lack of context and backstory of Warren and his gang. Clearly they have done this before, and succeeded, and gotten away with it. They're all violent criminal minded psychopaths who have committed heinous crimes, yet they are not in prison, and even remain as seemingly innocuous, regular members of society. Earl is clearly a loose cannon angry man who is eager to shoot people, Al makes an excited comment to cut Amy's head off when they realize she's still alive, Billy is some impressionable young blood who gladly follows in all of it, and Redd is an above average intelligence criminal mastermind, sociopath. I always wanted to see a pointless movie that just gives back story to these guys and their histories and the crimes and acts of violence and life experiences that lead up to their criminal persona.

I always thought that Billy was Redd's other son, he really has a look a like with the little boy and was quite comfortable in their house, Redd also reacts very worried when Billy crashes and dies, then he gets even angrier at Jeff.

I thought Breakdown revival in 2022. Rex Linn, who played Sheriff Boyd in 1997's "Breakdown", would've played Warren "Red" Barr, the bad guy. And, Richard Cabral would've played Sheriff Boyd.

I don't believe the owner of the diner was in on it, the way to know for sure would have been to have COLUMBO look at the case. He usually knows the bad guy(s) in 2-5 minutes lol. This was an incredible on the edge of your seat thriller. One of the best in my opinion.
