Sadly, this system is more profitable for the committee and the studio management. With less show to make there's less money involved. There's a rare studio like Kyoto animation that cares about their staff and quality. But since anime on its own is no longer a big profit maker since Bluray sales had been dropping and well anime, in general, had been a glorified advertisement for its manga counterpart this is the only way for the studio to survive.

It's kind of an iffy situation though. You see, there are a pretty decent amount of animators that are paid well enough to have good lives, but those are the salaried positions. Animation Studios quite often outsource to freelancers or do what is essentially a paid internship. If you're able to prove yourself as either a reliable artist/animator, or you have displayed insane skill that can't be passed up regardless of your reliability as an employee, you can get one of those salaried positions. The sleep issue is a different thing. It's not just the animators, literally everyone on the production team of an anime is overworked, just watch a recent interview with the director of AoT's final season and pay attention to the awful bags under his eyes. This part sadly doesn't have a solution or necessarily a bright side to it. Once you look at the information for a while, you realize that the pay for salaried employees at bigger Studios isn't as bad as many people think (it's not great, but it's not the BS "salaried employees only get two dollars per hour" thing that people say). The real issue is the overworking and sleep deprivation situation, because the thing is, you don't really need much money in your pocket to sit at a desk all day, sure you deserve the money and you have earned the right to it, but I think it's bad that people think of this as a money issue for the employees when it's much more of a schedule issue.

If you hear or read anybody dissing MAPPA for their work on AoT season 4, link them here. You cannot expect a new studio to suddenly inherit the methods and direction of a studio that worked on it for several years. You cannot expect to stop a car that has been moving on 6th gear and transfer to another car and expect it to jump straight into the 6th gear. I've read some comments saying that MAPPA had no excuse to not be at a similar level that WIT was during their time. Not gonna lie, those comments were annoying. So thanks for this video. What I love about Araki's direction is that in action scenes, even stills are used to great effect. Even though they are primarily designed as a cost-saving measure, their execution is fantastic. They are usually accompanied by overlaid speed lines on the side of the screen, a crash zoom/speed pan and a BIG sound effect. All these together morph the still into something more akin to an impact shot rather than a cost saving measure. However, Hayashi's direction so far has not used anything like this. His stills are mostly... stills, and none are used in action, which is valuable in itself, but I wouldn't be complaining usually apart from the fact that there are some woefully janky animated shots in the series that honestly, would've been better left with the illusion of movement. For example, Eren's elbow drop into the crowds in Episode 6 only seemed to contain the end of his fall, and didn't emphasize him in the air. A still of him in midair placed in between the shots, coupled with some more impact sound effects could've helped sell the scene better.

The manga could be tedious with those walls of text, but Araki's style, helped by the seiyuu cast's stellar job even helped to make the 2nd arc less draggy. The man had hits and miss (I am looking at Highschool of the Dead), but you cannot say his series were boring.

Upon rewatching all the season man my heart pumps up with mind-blowing breathtaking animations in first 3 seasons. The gloss and intense close up scenes and of course amazing make up team. They elevated Isayama's work to whole another level. The texture and polish over titans and amazing colour palette that changed along with tone of arcs. Watching S4 all I had was disappointment. It didn't look terrible over-all it was fine. But just 'fine' isn't something I consider AOT should deserve. S4 was pretty rough and that's that. No matter how good a CG is it always look jarring and lack the weight both in action sequences and facial expressions. I sympathize with the staff who had to go through such tough time constraints because of higher ups at Mappa and got shit on by people even though it wasn't their fault. People saying it getting a movie by the end is good rumour but I think that's just prolonged suffering for the animators. I wish the best for him and hopefully other future series don't found themselves in the situation aot is in just because of greed.

As a follower of AOT I must say that I have not lost any of my love for the series, I think this last season has been good, although obviously not at the same level as the first seasons, particularly in the action scenes and the look of the titans, btw I don't think the CGI looks bad at all, but it's certainly no better than 2d animation, anyway it's impressive what MAPPA animators has achieved in such a short time, I seriously hope they have a good vacation period after this, and for the second part, or movie, they finally have the time necessary to demonstrate everything they are capable of, because they have a lot of talent and the series deserves to end in the best possible way.

It's fair to say that people just don't like cgi, which I can actually agree with because of how out of place it looks.
@jordandwiggins1026
3 жыл бұрын
@@thelegacyofgaming2928 Honestly I was barely aware of the CGI at all the whole series until the Colossal Titan’s scenes in Perfect Game which went back and forth between being a weird CGI blob to a detailed hand drawn Titan.....that was strangely proportioned in its scenes to the point of looking like 7-8 times taller than Eren’s Titan despite only actual being about 4 times its size. Maybe that was more an issue with Eren’s Titan, I’m not sure. Honestly Eren’s Titan looked rather weird in his fight with the Armored Titan a couple episodes prior as well. Keep in mind these are all nitpicks in my mind than only barely detract from my enjoyment of the show, but I do think it’s worth mentioning that while WIT’s use of CGI was far less noticeable to me early on in the series, that doesn’t mean they were flawless. Season 3 Part 2 is remembered for its standout scenes involving Levi, the Beast Titan, and the ocean, but there were quite a few parts where the animation was less than stellar that people seem to have completely forgotten in their crusade to hate on MAPPA. Nothing in S4 has felt as odd to me as the sudden change in character models from the Basement episode, well okay maybe the Beast Titan did but that’s really the only major problem I have. I think MAPPA’s style shines in episodes like Midnight Train, Deceiver and Sole Salvation where it’s all about the emotional character interactions and dialogues, which to me is why episodes like Declaration of War and Children of the Forest are so loved while some of the more action focused scenes are where people start having complaints. MAPPA and Kodansha just did not give their team the time necessary to animate these action pieces to the same standard that they been handled before. I don’t blame the animators for this, and people harassing them or calling MAPPA as a whole trash are toxic as hell and need to be purged from the fandom. But the higher ups at Kodansha and those at MAPPA who accepted this project despite knowing they didn’t have enough time, the ones who made these situations as difficult for the animators as it is fair game in my opinion, they absolutely did prioritize money over quality. I still think production wise the season has looked incredibly good but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t extremely glad that Part 2 is getting more time, because Part 1 simply did not have the polish that fans of this series have come to expect, this truth cannot be denied.

For me, it's the story that drives the show! I often find my self caught up in the plot, dialogue, voice acting, and camera angles instead of noticing the animation (from either studio) and I often find my self rewinding so I can just focus on the artwork

Great insight into the production. WIT was really able to up the source material. While I don't hate the new season or staff I do really wish WIT could have taken more time or planned work better to complete the series. My biggest complaint is with the character designs, and color design. The MAPPA season is very pink and navy, while WIT's color palette is much brighter. MAPPA doesn't have enough yellow even in scene that occur in broad daylight.

Wit refuse the aot s4 because of tight schedule so if they would been animate that for 8 months and for the 2 months preparing i guess i would prefer mappa because they have a tons of staff unlike wit so it could been more bad for the audience of maybe they will use cgi too if that happens which i dont really like wit cgi Titans because it look so out of place example like colossal titan so i think we dont have choice to accept it if u dont know other studio refuse too so but people saying aot s4 animation better i wouldn't agree since how cool the dynamic camera perspective and awesome composition so yeah

A year late but for someone who was oblivious to the change, it was barely noticable (specially since they all aged up so much) i just assumed they changed the style a bit to work with the feel of the show and actually barely noticed the CGI on many of the fights. While I would have loved Wit continuing the series Mappa has done a decent job at continuing it. P.S: Please for the love of god stop making "60fps Remasters" they look gross and ruin the efforts of animators, Thank You!

Got to say, I am so invested in these characters and the story by now, I didn't even notice anything off this season. It pains one to see again again there are such harsh work conditions for the creators of a beloved medium. Same with video games. Let me wait another half a year or more instead of crunching.

WIT studio did a perfect 10/10 for adaptation and mappa did a 9/10 adaptation. The only issue with the mappa is the animation is a bit iffy. The big moments all slap hard, but there is some jank cg with the titans. I would argue everything else is just as good. The art style change is great though, it perfectly captures the complete shift in tone from the third season to the 4th.

Love the editing of the colossal titan's lightning to love live at 9:50. Also love the comedy throughout, probably the funniest I've watched in a while while also giving a clear and in depth look in the series production. Also your Ex-arm videos has more views than those on way more popular shows and studios. Guess detailing something's downfall is more popular than highlighting positives?

I think another thing here is that people don't like being told they're wrong. So many people would agree that EX-ARM was terrible, but not many people would want to backtrack on bashing MAPPA for Season 4 of AOT.

Having watched most of the show during last year's lockdown, i feel AOT excels in everything - animation, soundtrack, STORY and best of all... voice actors. all of this has carried this boat all the way to where it is now and i, as a fan, have loved it. yes season 4 looks way different (not bad, but different) when you've binged on the first 3, but it is still amazing to be part of the ride. i just hope whatever is in store after the last episode this monday, the creators and production IG look at this video to decide on the best way to move forward (if they haven't already done so)

@@meawiyaothman7872 very true, but the reasons are all given here in this video. its unfortunate how things turned out but then in hindsight, we would not even have had any season 4 if MAPPA hadnt greenlit it. so better something than nothing. lets hope part 2 is given enough time to end the anime in a satisfying manner.

*Me watching mappas aot without acknowledging fan’s opinions* “Dude they are using full 3D models for titans? They must’ve upgraded now they can focus on better fight choreography! Wait a sec…Are they rotoscoping for just casual conversation movements?! Most studios dont do that. Thats so unique!! Ah this is so good it really shows that this will be the final season and will stand out to be its own thing. The thick outlines are gone which makes this feels like a different perspective of this story and it works so well!
