So Daniel, I thought you might find this interesting. Maybe you're familiar with the old Big Bud tractors made in Havre Montana, just 40 miles West of our farm. The day before yesterday, they announced that Big Equipment, in partnership with Rome Industries, will be building new Big Bud tractors. I'm not of the particulars on where it will be manufactured, but Rome is headquartered in Cedartown Georgia. The tractors will be built using 1.5 inch thick steel and weigh approximately 70,000 lb with the base model being between 640 to 750 hp. The drivetrain will utilize a Caterpillar C18 engine in front of a Caterpillar transmission and axles. The debut tractor will be exhibited at the CONEXPO International Construction Equipment trade show held in March at Las Vegas.

Back in the 1950's my brothers and I helped my father preparing "New Ground" where woods had been clearcut. People power, horse team, a small tractor and dynamite used to dislodge the stumps and roots and prepare the land for planting. Times have changed for the better. Thanks for sharing.

Grain sorghum is a good rotation if you have a market for it with good prices. It’s a low input crop, just don’t put it on ground where you have really bad grass problems. Also, select a variety that is tolerant to aphids (especially sugarcane aphids) spraying for them can get expensive.

@@TripleRFarms Great we do when we clear land, we just don't have the depth of subsoil that y'all do. Pull out the tree shove the soil back where it came from and wind row it as you go. Goes pretty fast then we come with the payloader like y'all did with the rake and pile it up and strike a match. Then we come with a heavy offset disk to chop up the shallow roots, then chisel it to death, and the final trip is a rotoveyer and it's ready to plant.

Unless you have an excellent market for milo I would discourage it. Maybe 25 years ago but with better corn hybrids there isn't the advantage today. It is nasty stuff to harvest. They don't call them itch berries for nothing.
