Likewise with IQ, he has potential to become an all star, he just needs to tighten up his handles and expand his offensive bag a bit but he’ll be set by then. RJ hopefully with the change in scenery is able to blossom, we’ve obviously seen stretches of great play I.e. early this year but also stretches of horrible play (last couple months), once he figures his inconsistency out he’ll be a really good player.

He's right, how many 6'2 - 6'4 combo guards out there that can give you numbers off the bench? Quicks defense is what made him special but there's a bunch of Gordon's, Poole's, Cam Thomas's Clarkston's, and Maxey's type of scoring players but those 6'7 and up two way big strong versatile wings are tough to come by. Look at the Knicks now, we have all of these tough hard-nosed defenders but they are small and they can't do anything consistently with the Luka's, Tatum's, Ingram's, Kawhi's, SGA's, Butler's, Bridge's, and KD's. No disrespect to Quickley, I love that dude but we had to find a way to get that wing.

Just like Knicks fans didn't want to give up IQ, Raps fans didn't want to give up Achiuwa based on potential. Achiuwa is one of the most athletic players in the NBA, he's explosive but just hasn't put it together. With OG and Achiuwa Knicks have gained two much needed wings that can guard multiple positions. Flynn for the most part wore out his welcome in Toronto, hopefully a change of scenery helps.

He might look great for a week or two in stretches, but then he'll start taking all kinds of out of character shots. It was his problem in Miami, it was his problem in Toronto, and it'll probably be the same in NY. Miami and Toronto are both good development franchises too. He'll plug a hole in your roster right now, and he might even look really good coming out of the gate. But as the season wears on, he'll wear out his welcome. We'll miss OG. That guy is a real one. One of the best, if not best one-on-one defenders in the league. Just be prepared. He's opting out. And there's gonna be a lot of suitors.

Losing IQ is a tough pill to swallow. He's a really good player and deserves a chance to be the lead guard somewhere. It would have been nice to see a lineup with IQ, OG, and Grimes guarding the perimeter. But. This trade allows the Knicks to start both OG and Grimes on the wings to really help with the perimeter defense while still having good shooting around Brunson/Randle. DiVincenzo moves to the bench to be the backup guard and provide scoring punch. Then the rest of the bench rounds out with Hart , Fournier/Deuce, Achua and Gibson (for now). They need to make more moves, but at least this solves a roster construction issue.

First the ages of the assets are not an issue here. OG is 26. IQ is 24. RJ is 23. Second only RJ has a contract past this season. The Knicks FO had to decide where to spend their resources. Extended IQ with a better player in front of him for the money he was going to want is a bad investment. IQ is great but he’s small and when him and JB are on the court together defense suffered. Also u factor in that in the playoffs whenever they needed IQ or RJ to step up they didn’t. OG is just a better player. Then u have to factor in that they got a back up center in the deal which was also a need. Look at the whole picture not just one part my dude.

The greatest problem has been draft selection. Frank Nitiklina over Donovan Mitchell, Kevin Knox rather than Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Obi Toppin rather than Tyrese Haliburton. If management drafted mire effectively this team would be further along. OG is a better defender and three point shooter than Barrett. If IQ was able to develop into a starter touro to getting Brunson it could have worked but 6'2" Brunson and 6' 2" Quickley could not work together. Thus they may have lost IQ to free agency this off season. They have a glut of guards and still need to balance the roster. Question is what becomes the next step.

Julius is a horrible help defender which has messes up the Knicks defensive rotation since he been here. When he plays one-on-one d he still gets beat either committing a stupid foul or allowing a player to beat him baseline which filters through the team hence Jalen Brunson. Jalen at least looks like he tries but gets over powered by the screens where your weak side defenders like Randle needs to jab and keep is his player honest. But nope that's not in JR's think tank. The player either sneaks back door or take the open three. Randle looks clueless. Don't ever put Randle and Brun in the same sentence. Give Brun half of Randle's body and he would do something with it. Randle on the other hand can flex on an and one but on the defense other forwards make him look like a bull in Barbie's playhouse.

R.J is in his 5th season. Randle broke his leg game 1 and missed his entire rookie season. Julius first seasons in N.Y. Was basically his 5th NBA season and even then was more consistent than R.J. now. No way you can pay a Guard $20M+ per year and they can only be impactful in transition offense
@Averywhitehall

You really think he can't play in the half court. His pick and role play is very good. He's been orchestrating the offense for years. I can't argue with his playoff peformance though. I was disappointed with him as well. If he plays just to his averages in the playoffs last year, I think the Knicks beat Miami (before he got hurt of course). But it's because he got hurt... and because I love him as a player... I'm willing to give him another chance to prove his worth.

@@Averywhitehall I know he can’t play in the halfcourt because there’s plenty of evidence of that…all you have to do is watch the film on him. He has no handle, no bag, limited athleticism/no 1st step & no counters. Quickley skill offensively is as a shooter not a creator. The Association has become this nonstop open run style of play by design to boost ratings…Have you seen how many teams are scoring 130,140,150+…it’s because there’s no resistance. That changes in the post season. You will not find any examples of Quickley 5 on 5 in the halfcourt versus real Guard/Wing defense do anything but turn the ball over & be unable to get by his man & have to give it up. He’ll put up great stats in the regular season when no defense is played, but when the game slows down he’s unplayable!

@@Realblingking00how is it terrible? Og is an upgrade for our starting lineup.

This is a high risk move by the Knicks as OG will be UFA after this season. For them to do this kind of move means that they think they’re a serious contender, which I’m not sold yet. There must some other moves to be made to justify this move. OG can walk away after this season. The 2nd rd pick they gave up is the Pistons pick which is potentially the 31st pick, which is similar to a late 1st rd.

KNICKS fans rejoice, this is the player we are getting, he can dunk, he can shoot from mid range & 3, he gets steals, he can block, he locks down best player on opposing teams. He has a better 3point shooting percentage than RJ and is a solid upgrade over RJ. OG resigning with the Knicks next season. CAA client & Leon’s son is his agent. Knicks don’t make this trade if they don’t know what’s down the road. Similar to Brunson. He will resign & IQ will get a bigger contract outside Toronto so he’s gone. Bottom line Barrett for OG‼️ I will miss IQ but who knows if Toronto will be able to retain him & he deserves to be a starting PG elsewhere. We can’t afford to pay him that bag 💰 just to be out PG off the bench. So it’s sad to see him go but I think this deal from Toronto standpoint was more for IQ than RJ. RJ contract is now their problem too & it’s one of the worst in the league. So solid B+ grade for our Knicks in my opinion & remember Knicks fans, we didn’t have to give up a single 1st round pick. We can make a big trade still for a Dejounte Murray or Spida Mitchell just as an examples. We still have Grimes we could use in a trade and Fournier’s contract too. So I think we make another deal or two yet

We so thirsty for a chip but we need to realize that Brunson will probably be the third option on that team and we do not have any guys that’s gonna get us that period so you do not trade people that can get you the guy when they become available for a 4th or 5th option

That’s cope if I ever seen it. We just gave up essentially 35-40 points on average for a defensive upside star? This is not a great trade. We just placed ourselves on a time limit now.

@@williecruz7006 I hear what you’re saying but we just traded a playmaker with above average defense on 1-3 off the bench with starting caliber for wing defense (albeit he can guard any position) and corner 3 who’s at the doctor’s every other day. RJ may not be consistent but he wasn’t a regular degular throw in. Knicks didn’t win or lose, kinda canceled out some problems while giving away some solutions. Especially given that RJ could garner more in a trade than a Precious and Flynn.

Both RJ and IQ are better than OG overall. Younger, faster, better free throw shooters. Healthier. OG is a better defender. His new contract ask is 35 sheets and that’s way too much for him.

Yes, this can make a lot of sense for continuing to complete the team. I think this can balance with the addition of Mitchell. We'd be kidding ourselves if we didnt give Mitchell his respect and describe him as a lethal scorer, one of the best scorers that seems realistically possible/available to add to the team. Yes Mitchell and Brunson bring undersize, but on offense they could run circles around teams, all Knicks have to do is offset their weakness with size and defense.

Spida isn't the right next move. Pairing him and Brunson in the backcourt caps your ceiling bc playoff teams will iso one of them on defense, just as we did against CLE in last years' playoffs. Also, CLE isn't settling for only picks to move Spida. Murray is not "that dude" either, but if ATL is in a true tear down then the picks make more sense for them and Murray theoretically pairs nicely with Brunson and he and OG give you strong perimeter defense. Also, dealing w ATL, maybe you can also get Capella to give you back some of what we lost this year with losing Robinson.

These guys are missing why fans are upset with the IQ part of the trade. The frustration stems from him being underutilized in NY. They did not tap into his full potential, RJ, they gave every opportunity to but IQ was denied that. And he will be the best player in this trade in 2 years, already is

Jeff Johnson was on point! When did RJ become the guy we expected to be a 3&D player? Quickly is all that but don’t dare sleep on the Canadian connection. Grimes & Deuce changed the future of this organization last year. Mitch’s injury changed the future of this organization this year. RJ’s role has changed every year he’s been a Knick. Shoutouts to him & Quick. D. Mitch ain’t the ain’t the answer. No more defensive liabilities can be acceptable to us. @ CP this team has gone a lot further can be expected. Championships ain’t built overnight. If we can be patient, we can be successful. I know our fanbase is going to complain like we always do but our wing defend issue has been addressed. Don’t return your Jerseys! LOL. Growing pains are going to hurt! We’re in playoff contention this year. Salute @KFTV

Time to feed the wolves! RJ “Broadway” Barrett and IQ will be missed but OG Anunoby addressed so many needs: Size, defense, range &versatility. By February, the Knicks have another deal to be made with Evan Fournier’s $18M cap space, plethora of 1st rounders. As much as I love Donovan Mitchell, the Knicks need size. Do they upgrade Center? Power forward? Shooting Guard? Is Dejounte Murray an upgrade? Do you move Mitch? Everything is on the table. The Knicks have come a long ways from Jerome James’ era.

All this talk about we saved our first round picks when in reality Toronto didn’t want them since they are late first rounders that are heavily protected this season and going forward they ultimately will turn into second rounders. Just check the mock drafts, we got two picks in the 20s, that’s not valuable and the other picks are in the protected range

I think late 1st rnd picks as trade assets depend on what's in the trade. But in general, most organizations gotta be cool with making multiple picks in the 1st rnd. There's always talent to be discovered or developed; diamonds in the rough happen etc, and yeah so do busts and players not reaching their potential but an org can't be afraid of that. I think an org has it way more difficult if they can't hit on a few late rnd picks over the span of a few years of drafting.
