Breaking takes a lot of practice and dedication to become great at it, just like any other sport. If a person has the opportunity to be trained by someone at a high-performing level, that's even better. The core strength and arm strength, plus flexibility and stamina that it involves is nothing to sneeze at. Not to mention the gymnastics abilities that many breakers bring to the floor. What does it matter that breaking can often be learned and performed on the cheap? If it doesn't require expensive equipment and exorbitant coaching and facility fees, then it's not a real athletic activity or sport? People once played basketball with peach baskets, while others played baseball with broomsticks! For decades, whether on neighborhood streets, in parks, or in stadiums, these two sports have been two of the most loved and played sports around the world, despite their humble beginnings. So what does money have to do with it? Besides, in breaking, your body IS the equipment! Either you've got the goods or you don't!

@4everfreethinker originally when Black Americans created it, it was more a groove, more DANCING less floor work. That's when it got corny and Black Americans left it alone and the Puerto Ricans picked it up.

@@fredricksmith8760 Thanks for that insight. Evolution can be a great thing. In this case, it's what makes breaking so captivating to someone like myself. When I watch breaking I want and expect to see lots of spins and freezes that make balancing maneuvers look like sculptural art. Somebody spending most of their set doing top-rock and/or only footwork without the dynamic and explosive performances, just doesn't do it for me. So if I owe the birth of that to the Puerto Ricans then...THANK YOU, PUERTO RICAN BREAKERS!!!

@4everfreethinker actually Puerto Ricans didn't create acrobatic FLOORWORK. It actually came from BLACK AMERICANS. Every ELEMENT and NUANCE in Breakdancing was created specifically by BLACK AMERICANS..no other group. But AFTER Black Americans moved on to ELEVATING Hip-hop to a GLOBAL STATIS. Latinos picked up our OLD ROUTINES, and IMMULATED Black American culture. The floor work you love comes from TAP DANCING and SWING DANCING which is 100% Black American culture and that's who influenced the Black American ORIGINATORS of the Dance form. Fortunately, this will be the LAST OLYMPICS featuring Breakdancing because when EUROPEANS and Latinos get involved, it LOSES AUTHENTICITY and CULTURAL IMPACT. So feel free to thank Black Daddy for GIVING YOU CULTURE.
