I really look up to Ruan Jia. Seeing his painting process is really amazing, just beyond words. His works are godlike. But sometimes seeing him paint is disheartening and makes me want to cry. Will I ever be able to reach his level, I wonder? But for now, all I have to do is keep on drawing and continue looking up to him for motivation.

I bet anyone even with little knowledge can get up there, I’m drawing semi realism when I drew stick figures during kindergarten, what changes artists is influences, i found 3+ artists that draw almost exactly like WLOP and they’re gorgeous, another thing happened with guweiz and Ilya but it’s a artstyle issue and I think there’s some drama…the point is you need to analyze and know what exactly what they’re doing and study it, you don’t have to copy them (if you get that far, I can’t draw like my seniors) but inherit the skills somehow and build! :)

You will never reach his level, because he is the same as you, trying to improve everyday, he won't stay there for you to catch up to, same thing for everybody else... So what I suggest is to learn from the masters, acquire their skills and hone it to your own, always try to be a better version of yourself from the day before and you will become sucessful in years to come :) Best wishes.

He doesn't even sketch with lines. He just goes off straight away painting. That's a true master right there. Amazing!

Amazing how nicely geometrical eventhough the process is basically purely painting, no 3d guides or anything.

I would really like to know how much time does these kind of illustrations take? If it doesn't take a week, then I'm really really surprised.

Months, granted he's working on more than one at the same time. But this stuff doesn't happen in just a week.

@@transientimages I beg to differ, I've watch his stream before. Although not as polish as the finished work, he actually can make this painting come in value in 5 hour or less.
@transientimages

@@user-wc6oe4fs6y I mean the big picture is done in that time frame of course. It's the polish that takes months (taking into account it's more than one at a time and also the art director) Usually you can nail the big read of an image in one sitting. It's everything else that happens next that takes a while. And with Ruan Jias more professional, highly polished 10K work, i don't think it could be done in 5 or 6 hours. Not disagreeing, just wanted to make myself more clear.

When you practice perspective and understand how it works, until it becomes muscle memory and intuitive. Check the artist Kim jung gi he has alot of content around about this...

I painted a battle scene with acrylics with a similar process. It took me about 2 or 3 weeks of 4 to 8 hours a day. I had bad arguments with my wife who didn't like it I was in the room painting so long. I'm so proud of the result but it took so much energy and conflict with the world around me. Everyday, I would be wet in sweat from all the work. Wish I could do it for a living but at the same time it can I don't lol.
