This event is part of the Royal Society's Summer Science Exhibition 2024.
There's a scientist hidden inside all of us. Science's greatest gift to us is not formulae but enabling the urge to discover that makes us truly human.
Dr Camilla Pang will look at some of the biggest mysteries facing science today and how some of the best cutting-edge scientists can illuminate our own approaches to observation, hypothesis, exploration, troubleshooting and discovery in our lives.
Camilla Pang is a scientist, award winning author and neurodiversity advocate working in sustainable innovation. With a PhD in Biochemistry from UCL, she specializes in bioinformatics, leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) and systems theory to increase efficiency and sustainability of pharmaceutical leads. Beyond the lab, Camilla also actively contributes to bioremediation and ecosystem restoration projects in the civil engineering sector, championing regenerative scientific practices. As an accomplished author, Camilla’s debut book, “Explaining Humans” made her the youngest person and the first woman of colour to win the Royal Society Science Book Prize. Her latest work, “Breakthrough” (April, 2024), explores how insights from cutting-edge science can provide a blueprint for navigating uncertainty in life and re-engineering processes in industry. Being an Autism/ADHD advocate, TEDx speaker, and trustee for the Light year foundation charity, she fearlessly challenges the status quo, and is passionate about creating inclusive and sustainable futures across domains.
The Royal Society is a Fellowship of many of the world's most eminent scientists and is the oldest scientific academy in continuous existence.
