One of the best jazz bands ever, tradition and innovation perfectly mixed together. Saw them live in 2000, at Nice Jazz Festival, a delightful concert, Mike made me weep like a baby with a single, long note during a slow ballad, I'll never forget it. 💖

So great! That album, Time is of the Essence, is where I discovered Larry Goldings... which lead to Bill Stewart and all their friends. Holy crap what a great bunch of artists! Pat and Michael are the real deal, and the whole thing just rocks!

One of my favorite jazz tunes. I love the melody at the head. Michael was just a monster player RIP. Elvin Jones drummed to this tune on the album but Bill puts his own flavor to it here. Freakin' great music. Doesn't get much better.

Awesome composition and mindblowing concert. I saw them in Hamburg a couple of days earlier and I still sing this tune at least once a day :-). I was wondering during the concert: Who played the bass? Is that Larry Goldings' feet on the basspedal? Sounds different than typical B3 basses. Does anyone here know about the band gear and setup at that time?

I've counted through the drum solo a few times now and it never comes out to a 12-bar form, it's always off by a couple beats. Is it me? They're amazing and I need to get better but this makes me feel better for "losing the one" on occasion.

@@charlie_painter hi. Yes. But those 12 bar solo cycles are not in the “tune” as such. The tune/melody is made up of 8 bar cycles, and they decided to solo over a 12 bar blues. Except for the drum/sax ending where they go back to the melody.
@charlie_painter

@@kevingibson4816 I need to improve at counting, I counted the Drum solo as two "choruses" like 12 bars plus 11 bars or something weird.

@@charlie_painter apologies though..... I was referring to the solo at the end of the tune. I see there is a short solo over two choruses of blues. Its spot on though.

Disagree about that out of sync. Had sometimes struggles with such surprising and hard to handle aspects but am quite sure this one is alright. Try another source or soft and hardware to playback.
