I'd sette for even 10% of the tank space ! It's a project I'd love to see close up. Late last fall, I crossed some Shadow Panda Guppy females with wild form P class Endlers. Some of their fry were very pretty and even the females have slight colour, just a blush on the tail. When those fry were old enough to begin breeding, started seeing some fry that were bright gold. I appear to have two females, maybe three, throwing these gold fry, a few in every brood. I"m saving them all, have 3 males old enough to breed now, all different, but all very pretty. The gold appears to be leucistic - the only black on these fish is in their eyes, which all have bright gold rings 'round the pupils. I will probably never have the space to do this properly, for me it's strictly for fun, but it's fascinating to see what turns up as each matures.

Nice video, nice to hear you say that you get bored of certain fish, Have had 7 tanks of African Mbuna but have lost a lot of space to keep tanks with birth of new baby. I used to breed platties when I was a kid, may look into guppies now due to lack of spa ce and wanting to be supportive to my other half I don't want to spend qute as long in the fish room as I did,people tell me don't let siblings breed with gu[pies but I wanted to do the 40G, BREEDER TANK method too. I guess I just have to get rid of any fish with obvious genetic issues - subbed your channel btw.

I always read endler’s like 75-82 degrees f .. hard water 7.4-8 ph .. ii use to worry that my moms would eat their fry but the Endler’s never did. (I have Japanese blue, tiger and red bar) But my mosaic dumbo guppy’s did… mot enough tríenme to notice it unless I saw it. my endler’s first drop was about 8-12 babies and my guppy seemed to have babies for days- I couldn’t tell you how May they had. I just introduced powder blue guarami’s and knight goby Because my dry population has gotten out of control. I’ve been separating males and females for months now. This tiny male endler’s are fast !

Great Project! May I ask: Why no heater? I want to do the same but keep reading that cool water slows down gestation and growth. My plants do much better without heat I want to raise my Endlers and some fancy in heavily planted tanks. But- I also want high production and rapid growth from the fish. Is it always a trade off or, will these fish do fine at "room temperature" once acclimated?

My experience with these livebearers is that they will produce a lot of babies in larger spaces, especially if there is plenty of structure for the fry to hide in until they are large enough to not get eaten by adults (but Endler's are not bad fry eaters so long as they are fed well). Feed a couple times each day and do regular water changes.

@rickyxiong
8 жыл бұрын
They can survive ok but they thrive in warmer temperature like 75 to 80 Fahrenheit. I'd recommend getting like a small water heater for your tank if you're looking to breed or just have a better environment for your guppies. Otherwise they will do fine as well, they're pretty hardy fish.

While the condition of wild populations is unknown, the population of Endler's in captivity is very, very stable. I would love to find homes for all of the 100's of fry that are born in the colony, but they are just not in demand. It is better to keep the colony at a healthy population level by feeding some of them to a predator than it is to stop keeping them because they breed themselves out of favor in the fish room. The biggest threats to the existance of Poecilia wingei are hybridization and artificial selection that take the color strains away from wild type.
