This song is based on a true story. While filming the movie 'Juice', Tupac read about Brenda's story in a newspaper article and it moved him so much that he decided to write a song about it.

melissa S You obviously never heard his song keep your head up. If you did you would understand he wrote about the kind of community he grew up in. The struggles he’s faced, the horrible things that happen in the world.( things like this happen).
@melissas6208

@@nykerianash1590 I definitely know and understand keep ya head up. Brenda has a baby was on his first album. 2pac was struggling to get signed. He had to convince the record label to keep the song. They didn't want a song about a child that gets molested by cousin, sells drugs and then herself for money, does drugs, throws her child In a trash can and eventually gets murdered. He was clearly affected by the story in the newspaper but other people didn't seem to care. In the music video someone even says that it's not thier problem(Brenda) and 2pac tries to explain how it is and how it affect the whole community. I think he wrote this song to get more attention to that specific story and overall that if someone just cared or tried to help her. Things would have ended differently for her.

I ..as a white female grew up much like him here in Detroit. It actually surprises me that people don't know what it's like to not eat right.. have a single mother on welfare.. have no dad. But it helps me to know others know his lyrics and have at least an idea how others live and have lived. This is all I know so I can't really relate to the "big money.. flashy cars" etc.. lifestyle. It's actually odd to see people react to life the way some of us live as if they never seen it before. As if it's just some book based in fiction. At least he has opened up to what "real" life is like. Just to know there are ppl that literally have no idea what struggle is actually makes me sad. I don't want ppl to hurt I just mean it's sad we don't always relate to one another .. even with common experiences like death. I have loved ones who died.. and maybe you as well.. but if it's that mine was shot or didn't receive good med. Care and your loved ones died of a stroke..we feel loss.. but not in the same way..if that makes sense ..?. Loss= same pain.. but the cause of the death can cause added pain/stress

See, thats thats the luxury many of us have. If we dont wanna hear about others suffering, we can just change the song or chanel. For me, 2pacs music is about motivating us, Who have more, to help others, Who have less.. In 2 years, this song Will be 30 years old, 30 YEARS OLD!!! And things have only gotten worse. And manly, i think it has a lot to do with the shit People watch on tv, and the music these days, All mainstream artists talk about crab, and People, young Kids, they would rather hear about partying and getting shitfaced and just keeping to them self. And No Wonder, the People they look up to, Who actually have a puplic voice, never talk about others problems, and scociety never want us to help our fellowman. No one is reaching into their minds Any more like 2pac did. He is my biggest inspiration on how to always keep my head up, and he has bin gone now for All most 23 years, and no one, in my opinion has rose above him. I listen to him every Day. And I teach my Kids about him and his visions about eaquality and helping others, and looking past the books cover, and about staying strong, and learning to count on them self.

This is the thing with tupac, he raps about real stories, stuff different people can relate to. He raps about politics, killings, drugs, race, even people tryina make a change. anything that an indivudual can relate to..like it was made specificaly for that one person. Thats why tupac is considered the best, because he told stories. Hes not like these new rappers now a days talking about how good it feels getting drugged with pills. Pac read books, Pac listened to news, Pac wrote poems! Yeah he was from the ghetto but he teached his listeners that even though u came from the hood, you can still grow.

Dd you do any research onTupac? How his Mom was heavy in the Black Panther movement and then later became addicted to crack, react to Dear Mama if you haven't yet. Anyway, it inspired him to be an activist and advocate for his community, so yes many of his songs are about his environment. It's not pretty but it's important to bring these things to light and in 2018 in many ways things have either stayed the same or gotten worse, not better.

Thanks so much for listening and really feeling it!!! You’re a good dude. This is the reason that Pac shows this side of the ghetto so people will know what’s going on. No offense but white people really dont know how bad it is sometimes. This song still makes me tear up. The reason ghettos exist is due to red lining which was a program that kept African Americans from getting a place in a better neighborhood because white people didn’t want them around. Even though the equal housing act tries to prevent this these days, it still happens in subtle ways. Hood is just short for neighborhood but A ghetto or project housing is mostly where this type of stuff takes place. In the projects, people are poor and there are no opportunities. It’s hard to get on your feet if you’re not extremely forward thinking and disciplined. It’s easy to mimic what you see around you. It’s your environment. Stuck in a vicious cycle. But most people are not criminals even in the ghetto. Most people are terrified living in a building with murderers and drug dealers, and in the words of Tupac, “The same crime element that white people are scared of black people are scared of. While they waiting for legislation to pass, we next door to the killer. All them killers they let out,they're in that building. Just because we black, we get along with the killers? What is that?”
