Today I’m brewing a Helles Lager on my Anvil Foundry 6.5 gallon brew system using a traditional decoction mash schedule. I also need to check in on the Berliner Weisse from last episode.
While my first pick is usually a sour beer, my second or third has to be something light and refreshing like a Helles Lager. In German, helles means light, bright, or pale. So a Helles Lager is simply a light lager beer.
Now, let’s make some beer.
