Congrats on the brew Ted.. well done! My bet for the color is a matter of Boil time. Assuming the same grains. Either that or he has a “hotter” stovetop. Being able to bring the boil to a high temp and really rolling darkens to color tones. In my experience you could get a good result on pretty much ANY system. Provided you could do a couple things. 1: keep a clean space and respect your sanitation. 2: keep the temps cool. This is where I feel most people end up getting that “Homebrew Twang”... but likely what they’re tasting (assuming it doesn’t taste like bandages or feet) is yeast esters. Typically from either A: a large presence of yeast in the glass B: pitching an anaemic and low volume of yeast or C: (and most likely) an inability to pitch at low temps and keep temps on the lower side through the first 80% of fermentation. What I’m curious about is what you’d get if you brewed this exact same recipe and setup in the middle of the summer.

Sounds like a successful brew! And thanks for the the shoutout! You gotta let me know if you make fermented agave or anything inspired by it. Would love to see it!

I’ll be doing my own rebrew in the summer so we’ll see (with the missing hops). I reckon it’ll kick the kit’s ass! Ted....not had that one before but it works well for the two of us!
