Great Vidya. Mean Brews is a treasure trove of useful data. That is a channel that I will lean on more than I have in the past. Cheers.

@@AnimatedHomeBrew The video quality and topic does matter of course with a few other bits but I use a few programs to help track statistics and it is amazing how all related channels can have a good day at the same time and bad days all at the same time like waves.

I LOOOVE brewing brown ales with a Nottingham yeast. In the last batch, 24% of the grist, I used dried and lightly toasted hot dog buns. Believe me - it was absolutely delicious!

Brilliant! I don’t think Brewfather has a fermentables profile for hot dog buns yet. You should post photos/videos on social media. I’d love to see it!

Just bought a bag of Maris Otter so now I know what to do with some of it. Can't brew outside as it is -30c today, but I do have a basement with an electric setup.

Electric brewing outside in winter can be a challenge. It does take longer to heat up. However, you can do a cool down phase pretty fast in those temperatures.

Hi, nice video, love the animation style. I was just wondering whether a bit more of carbonation, let's say 2.8, would be more appropriate or not for this style. I'm thinking of a dubbel style( I know 2.3 is the official number but...), with it's crispy feeling ant I think this one would work the same well. It's just my opinion. Good work!!

To me, malty brown ales are best kept on the lower range of carbonation, say 1.8-2.3. I was aiming more for a southern English brown ale 1.3-2.3 vol, whereas the northern English brown ale 2.2-2.7 vols, or American brown ale 2.0-2.6 seem more carbonated. I think I prefer a smoother brown over a crisper brown. I typically only carbonate light lagers, Saison or Belgian triples at a high range like 2.8. Do you have a recipe that you follow?

Great video (again)! Do purposefully put in the extra effort to add in the animated guy’s shadow? If so, kudos on the extra effort there! On another note, this makes me want to brew a brown ale. I’ve always liked the Pete’s Wicked Ale so I might shoot for something like that.

Thanks for noticing the details! It does take a little extra work, but I think it’s worth it. For brown ales, brewing in winter is always good. Better brew it sooner rather than later!

Nice video! What are the main differences between brown ales and porters, for example? The grain bill was quite similar to some of the porter recipes I've seen around. Is this less bitter as well?

80% maris otter 7% biscuit malt 7% crystal 60 4% brown malt 2% chocolate malt 150F mash for 1hr 60min boil, 6-7oz whole leaf centennial at 15 min left (my homegrown hops are quite earthy), I would not recommend this amount if you're doing pellet hops. Imperial A09 pub ale 3 weeks in fermenter at 67F Carb at 2.3 vols

@@AnimatedHomeBrew Thanks so much. I have some dried wild hops that are quite mild and would go well in this recipe.
