You run the recirc pump during part of the boil to sanitize the lines and chiller right?
@mikebbqphilosopher1240
Жыл бұрын
i usually wait. until the temp drops below boiling. I read most pumps are not designed to handle boiling liquid. Also during cleaning I run PBW through the pump. then rinse with water, and finally run starsan through the pump. Haven't had any issues with infections.

Well done video. I have the same unit. I liked seeing your modifications from the basic setup. Converted mine to quick connects and use a separate counter flow chiller. I’ve been considering switching to a bag and eliminating the malt pipe. I would think that sparging would be more difficult though. How do you sparge using the bag?

Sparging would be essentially the same. I still use the malt pipe. I have an old man tun with camlocks. I would follow the same process even with back only.

When I sparge which is only for high abv beers i usually use old kettle and connect connect the pump to it and run it very slow(2 gallons). Other times I have hand sparges with a pot and poured by hand.

Where did you get the cart, the size is perfect for what I'm ooking for my setup, I liked how you attached the plate chiller to the cart.

Sweet cart. I have a A/V cart I got at a school auction I want to convert but what is yours and where did you get it?

A guy in the homebrew club had an extra cart. I traded him for a few bottles of beer..

Removing the Sparge step is almost irrelevant to the total time taken to produce a beer. What do you mean by wanting to produce a quick beer? If you look at the stages involved in making a beer, especially the Fermentation and aging steps, the Sparging step doesnt allow you to drink the beer earlier. Nothing you would notice anyway. It's worth the extra gain in mashing efficiency, by doing the sparging step.

That is true, but sometimes I want to be done brewing in 2.5-3 hours instead of 4-5 hours.

@@mikebbqphilosopher1240 why? You're a philosopher right? And you're worried about a couple of hours? Also you could probably remove point number 5 on your disadvantages list. How would you complete a sparging step without an additional vessel? Us water directly from your hot water tap or from your kettle?

Thanks your comments. I wouldn't say I am worried about 2-3 hours, but there are times I have other things to do it I want to make the process as simple as possible.

Great video. Is your plate Chiller more efficient than the immersion chiller?
@michaelchalukian9511

I would say yes, lately I have been using the immersion chiller to make clean up faster and easier.

@@michaelchalukian9511 I have an old immersion chiller with a hose that sprang a leak, so I've been playing around with no-chill brewing. I've been wondering if I should buy a plate chiller instead, so your comment caught my eye. It's been a year, are you still preferring the immersion chiller?
@mikebbqphilosopher1240

I would probably by a Jaded immersion chiller if I was going to buy a new chiller. They are super easy and efficient.

What size cam lock is on the anvil? Also what size tubing are you using?
@mikebbqphilosopher1240
3 жыл бұрын
I purchased my camlocks from barginfittings.com. They are 1/2 inch. From what I have read they are universal. The hoses are 1/2 inch(iD) high temp tubing. You can use a little smaller if you want.

Do you use as 120v or 240v? If you use 120 do you have any issues with getting a nice rolling boil? Thanks
@mikebbqphilosopher1240

I use 120 v. The boil is not rigorous, but it gets the job done. I wouldn't worry about it, you just use less strike water because the boil off is less.

What size bag are you using.

I purchased the 5-10 gallon bag because the dimensions were close to the Anvil and it was $20 cheaper than the one made for the all in one units.
