How does that further breakdown you ask? Of the remaining 57% about 55% is under WTO framework using tariffs imposed by the EU, meaning the majority of our goods we export are on tariffs set not by us but by the EU, this also applies to our imports, again the majority of our imports are not with the EU, however those imported goods are more expensive than they should be thanks to EU imposed tariffs and there are also quota limits set again by the EU. You always hear about the group of a few hundred businesses who say leaving will be a disaster, what they omit is that you don’t hear that from the over 2.2 million businesses that are in the UK who are ALL affected by EU imposed rules, regs, standards and ECJ rulings even though they don’t trade with the EU...again, the media and 75% pro-EU Parliament are lying to you. Do you want to talk about EU funded King College London based “Gov assessments” or EU funded CBI claims that base their findings of doom based on blockages at ports (which ALL the authorities will say will not happen any more than normal if no deal) or on the basis that the Government will do NOTHING to mitigate any risks, basically the lying MPs who push these disaster claims are saying to you they will do NOTHING to advert disaster, given that ofc they will act you can safely assume it will no longer be a disaster as they claim (lie), worst, they are knowingly lying to you.

@Mark Evans The Scots had an independence Referendum in 2014, in which they voted to stay part of the UK by a margin of 2m to 1.62m. The SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon, who is the 1st Minister of the devolved Scottish Parliament, has been trying to engineer a 2nd Referendum, although her efforts in this respect have been blamed for the SNP's loss of seats in the UK's 2017 General Election. So it's really not clear that the Scots as a whole now wish to leave the UK. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proposed_second_Scottish_independence_referendum

@Mark Evans "A lot can change in 5 years." Well maybe Nicola Sturgeon will get her Referendum once things have settled down after Brexit. And then we may find that people have changed their minds again. The bigger point is that you can't just hold referenda every time something changes. We live in a representative democracy, in which referenda have to be rare events. Otherwise who's to say that, if they voted for independence tomorrow, the Scots wouldn't be demanding readmission to the Union in 5yrs time if things didn't work out because, say, the oil price collapsed again, or they found they couldn't do without the Barnett money. "You really haven't seen the atmosphere here. They all want to stay in the EU." Well I'll have to take your word for it.

@Mark Evans Well that's just what happens when (i) an empire hinders a nation's assertion of its independence, and (ii) the nation's quisling political leadership neglects to carry out the will of its people, and to undertake the preparations necessary for independence. "Who said immigrants are taking jobs?!" I am an immigrant myself, so it ill behoves me to be anti-immigration. The point is that the numbers need to be controlled, because big business is using mass immigration to drive wages down, and mass immigration is also ramping up demand for housing, with the inevitable effect this has on housing cost. "The Tories took my DLA then my housing benefit and now they want to take away my fucking job!" Firstly, you've changed the subject. I thought we were discussing the impact of Brexit on Scottish independence aspirations. Now you want to turn it into a rant against the Tories. Secondly the Tories don't WANT to take your job. They inherited a massive debt and deficit from Gordon Brown after he allowed public spending to get out of control, and it's taken them over a decade to get public spending under some sort of control. If you want to question their competence, go ahead, I probably won't argue with you. In contrast, the paranoid attribution of malign intentionality is just an exercise in futility.

Every sensible decision making system like voting on new laws or substantial boardroom decisions you need a 2/3 majority in order to decide on change. The reason for 2/3 is that you need a stable majority over time not a coin-flip where you need a referendum each year for decisions that last for decades. (by the way the UK went in the EU with a 68% majority)
@RogerPowell8

No minimum majority was set pre referendum and everyone who voted was aware of that. To say what should have happened after the fact, is nonsensical. The only people who use that argument are remain voters as they cannot accept that more people voted for the side they didn't. Britain never voted to join the EEC or the EU. We were put into both without the electorate voting for it. The EEC Referendum was to determine whether to leave the EEC or retain membership of it.

Truth is that even leave supporters have to concede that Mays deal gives them less power and crashing out would be a disaster,so there is now only one option left. That option is to REMAIN and if leavers can't handle that, then let them protest, let them throw tantrums, let them kick and scream.True Democracy resides WITHIN Parliament, not within a one off reactionary UKIP type result. If there is a silver lining here,it's that young people hopefully will realise (as they have in America) the importance of getting out and VOTING for what type of society they want to live in.It is their future that is at stake, and they should have a Democratic right to vote on that future.when ALL the TRUE facts become apparent.

The Brexit Referendum was specifically only "advisory". If MPs think the 'terms' are not in the best interests of the country, then they should vote against it, because we have a representative democracy, not direct democracy by referenda. In that case the options would be to either withdraw article 50 and remain or re-negotiate - or - have a second referendum on the 'terms'. A second referendum can only be *more* democratic - not less, because it entails asking the electorate again. We're 'allowed' to vote more than once on issues - that's why we have elections every few years - because opinions change when more information becomes available.

British people have lived in a world along side the EU. In 2016 they were asked if they would like to continue the way it's been going. They said no. To claim "WE" ( Britain ) didn't know what we were voting for is pathetic! For decades we've lived it! And the majority don't wish to do it any longer. Just because my age group 18-20, want a say, I don't think is reasonable because we've only experienced hourly pay on the weekends and education.

I was expecting a completely different viewpoint from these young people but I was really impressed how they saw through the Remainer BS to focus on the facts. The girl saying we must have a new vote because she wasn't old enough to vote is just daft. If that were the case, we'd have to re-vote every vote we've ever had since the history of voting began in order to make sure every new 18 year old had the chance. To those people concerned they wouldn't be able to travel or study in other countries in the EU, I'd say, how on earth do Asian students study here in the UK? They're not part of the EU. How do people from the UK live and work in Australia? They get a visa and do it regardless of the fact they're not a part of the EU. You don't need to be a part of a political club in order for these things to happen. The rest of the world is your example that things function just fine.

The public can't be trusted with making decisions as complex as this one. It's why we vote for MP's. The first referendum was a mess and the public weren't educated properly about its consequences. At least a second one would see a public with a better understanding, but rather than call a second, the result of the first should be seen as too close to call. Leave it to MP's.

I watched this the other night. note to the guy who claims the EU forces countries to privatise industries - they don't. Privatization was undertaken in the UK by Maggie & the Tories (railway one coming home to roost soon). Also, Greek austerity. Frankly, if you fail to collect taxes and FU your economy, don't be too shocked when the EU decides to loan you BILLIONS of taxpayers cash, they want a say in how you spend it and how your economy is structured. Nobody would pour money into a black hole. BTW, Greek economy now showing signs of growth.

Spot on, the EU are the architects of Austerity, and the Member States Governments are the implementer s of their policy. There are huge fines for nations that do not tow the line, the UK is also bound by them despite being outside of the Eurozone, contrary to what you read in the MSM. The UK MUST get its budget agreed by the EU, or face penalties.

Every young person I know (I teach in a college) wants the UK to leave the EU political union. They all know that the five EU presidents (that no remainer can name) are unelected. They know that not one single EU citizen can vote for the people who create EU Law. They know their MEP (who nobody can name) cannot propose a law, stop a law or slow down the EU laws that are created by the unelected government appointees in the EU Commission. (and nobody can name them either) Before we joined the EU workers had Sundays off, didn't work around the clock seven days a week, didn't have zero hours contracts, got grants for higher education, didn't pay VAT, had more holidays, (2 weeks at Christmas and a week at Easter for a start) etc. Since being taken over by the EU Tyranny we have poor, homeless people who are starving in a land of plenty.

The point that the referendum was a bad idea is the whole nub of this bind. The issues surrounding leaving or staying are far too complex for a public vote and would never have been remotely understood. It remains a simple fact that if all the advantagers and dissadvantages of the existing arrangement were thoroughly known and a new direction thoroughly aired, we would have had a decisive majority one way or the other. We voted on a fantasy. Nothing more! Cameron as the young lady rightly observed, called the referendum for politoical expediency and had the shock of his life at the result. What kind of a government inflicts the burden of decision on a hapless electorate then washes its hands of any united course? They are criminally incompetent.

The young people often just repeat and cherry pick the propaganda of the Leave and Remain campaign. To me it just shows two things: 1. How bitterly divided this country is and how well repeating memes works in influencing people. 2. How little critical thinking, logic and reasoning is in the thinking faculties of young British people. All the talk of using 21st century thinking skills in schools isn't evidenced.

People who have been disenfranchised have been disenfranchised by successive governments. Our government is the problem, not some bureaucrats in Europe who people can't even name, nor Barnier, nor Tusk, nor anyone else. We have a lot of problems in this country and leaving the EU would only serve to exacerbate them, not make them better. The EU is the least of our problems, I can assure you. May needs to kick Brexit into the long grass and put an end to this madness.

Very refreshing to hear such well informed opinion and great common sense views from these young people, and obviously not what C4 were expecting I'm guessing. I groaned when one girl trotted out the stale 'I wanted a vote but was too young and it's my future'. I've got news for you... It's everybody's future regardless of age and there's no point crying you weren't able to vote and want a second referendum. What about all the people who will be too young to vote in that one and disagree with the outcome? A third referendum? You may not like it but you have to accept the decision of the majority of people that are of the age to vote. That's the way it works and constantly harping on about it doesn't change that.

Argument for second vote: 1. Some people voted to go to have no deal; others wanted to retain the customs union with no common market; others retain both but have unilateral border controls and some just wanted a different coloured passport. So the vote was between doing nothing and doing some unspecified alternative action. And it was a vote predicated on lies such as you can have all the benefits of EU membership with none of the costs and complete control.

Trade negotiation isn't so simple as, "let's have a deal!" One thing brexiteers don't seems to understand is no major countries (i.e. US, China, Japan) in the world will start negotiating with the UK unless she struck a post-brexit trade deal with the EU 27 first. Reason being, no major country is stupid enough to have a trade negotiation without a framework deal. Also, trade negotiation isn't a one-way street. You gain some and lose some in the interest of gaining access to other country's market. No country in the world will give access to their market on a silver platter without reciprocal benefits.

Simply put, anytime you have more people involved in any kind of decision making, it becomes more difficult. I don't understand why people would believe leaving the EU would make trade more difficult. Leaving the EU will simplify things for England. And why would any citizen of a country want outside countries dictate their destiny. The people of England should be determining what happens in their own country. There are a number of Americans who believe the UN should have the power to dictate what happens here and that was overwhelmingly slapped down. Here in the states, Democrats do the same thing being done in England. If you lose the vote, cry about it and demand a revote until you get your way. The guy in the white shirt in the front row, NAILED IT!

I find it ironic that the leavers are blaming the EU for austerity when it’s the Tories who have imposed austerity on the UK. Moreover, the UK has used its influence in the UK to promote neoliberalism in the EU. They’re quite foolish if they think austerity will end following Brexit.

IMO, the fundamental problem is that the was no hard definition of what "Leave" meant in the 2016 ref. As the time following the vote has shown, Brexit is not one monolithic thing but a spectrum, with many degrees. At one extreme, you might have the UK operating under 3rd country status, and at the other, the UK leaves the EU but joins the EEA/EFTA and loses voting rights on rules the still have to follow with no changes to the four freedoms. If I had design the ref, rather than a "simple" In or Out, I would of added this halfway option. Full disclosure: I am a NZer so don't have a dog in this fight.

The 'Peoples Vote' is a misnomer. The people have already voted. Respect British democracy rather than undermine hundreds of years of hard fought democracy and turn it into a mockery. If you failed to do your own research during the lead up to the referendum and relied on being spoon fed, then you failed in your civic duty. A second vote will cause a meltdown in the electorate; creating an irreparable hostility among the populace. The main consensus I've heard from both sides over the last several months is that under no circumstances should the sanctity of a democratic vote be undermined without it first being implemented. Soros should stop throwing money at the 'peoples vote' and creating friction in the UK. His native homeland, Hungary, are contemplating banning him due to creating division and undermining the incumbent government. He's gone as far as saying if Britain successfully leaves, his dream and the EU will collapse.

The EU didn't force austerity on Greece, as someone else pointed out it was the lenders, however ask Varoufakis - the eurosceptic at the frontline of the negotiations - what he thought of the EU itself; they kept the Greek economy afloat when they could've let it sink. As for the NHS, it's future will be in jeopardy in a no-deal-Brexit because although theoretically we should be able to protect it during negotiations with the Americans, we will in practice be desperate for a deal with them and, especially with DJT at the helm, they'll force us to make concessions and the Tories will only be too happy to oblige.

EU is not at all bureaucratic. That is a blunt lie. One rule for 28 states is much more effective than 28. And civil servants are not elected in Westminster as well. The EU parliament is elected and the EU council of ministers follows democratic rules.
