Brian Auger is without a doubt on of my favorite keyboard players. I have every single record he has made. Even to this day he sounds just as amazing as he did back in the early 1960's. One thing about Brian's music is it never gets old. His music is totally timeless. This was a super version of Compared To What.

I agree....some of the progressive jazz from the 70s sounds dated (although still good), but his sound is timeless.

Yeah! He’s a fucking beast on the organ!! I think Les McCann and Eddie Harris performed this earlier at the Montreux Jazz Music Festival (recorded on the ‘Swiss Movement album’. Give it a listen and you won’t be disappointed). I love both versions, but much more by Les McCann and Eddie Harris. Definitely puts me in a party mood! 😄

Had the pleasure of catching Brian at the Cubby Bear Lounge across the street from Wrigley Field in Chicago about 20 years ago. Late night show, sparsely attended due to cold weather but he just killed it anyway. His son was on drums and his daughter sang. Had an opportunity to talk to them afterwards and they were super nice and down to earth. One of my great musical memories.

Such a righteous, sweetass groove...Auger is an absolute master at building a dynamic rhythm and melodic solo....Even Winwood and Wakeman pale by comparison......more soul and taste than Lord and Emerson put together. The half step progressions..blow....me....down.

Monty the Python Please listen to the Les McCann and Eddie Harris composition. I believe Brian borrowed some of the mechanics of the song. The original was sang by Roberta Flack. A very dynamic song with lyrics that are always current. Gene McDaniels wrote both music and lyrics. I love this one, too. It's a great song no matter who does it.

Written by Gene McDaniels Born KC MO 1935, grew up in Omaha NE. I grew up in KC now live in Omaha. I wonder how many young people today have any clue about this wonderful tune or any other type of black musical historical contributions. I love the Eddie Harris/Les McCann version. My band teacher turned us onto this stuff in late 60's. What do kids listen to today......garbage.....and their teachers are just as clueless....worship hip hop and rap.

I also like the Eddie Harris/Les McCann version. That version is more about lyrics. This version by Brian is more about the music and groove. No, I’m sorry to say that the young people today don’t have a clue unless their parents expose them to the great music of the past.

I saw Brian Auger's Trinity with Julie Driscoll perform several times during late '60s in London. Next time I saw Brian Auger's Oblivion Express happened to be performing when on holiday in my Wife's small home town on the Italian East Coast, appx 2015 I think. His daughter was the singer at that Gig, (but I don't remember his son on drums). I would love to see an Alex Ligertwood Concert, but it seems that he doesn't tour in the UK anymore since Covid /& or Brexit?. I booked for the last UK tour by Santana Concert, a in London, but it was cancelled due to Covid and been no dates in UK since then, only US & Canada, (of course not affected by Brexit). Why is worth touring Europe but not worth touring in the UK for many Brit led Groups? Is it partly due to parasitic UK venue organizers and rip off ticket prices?
