Yes sad ..of course Ronaldo is human ..sadly he doesn’t know how to deal maturely with his feelings ..like most people. Sadly he publicly voiced his feelings and whilst providing initial and temporary relief, this public speaking about others ( as Harry and Meghan have seen), will serve to bring more suffering him in the long term. His real fear is that of ageing and becoming unwanted and unneeded as a footballer and being unable to look at this as he clings to his past glories, he can’t bear others , such as ETH, and so hits out at them as he projects what he can’t bear to think about onto others.

The only mistake that Cristiano Ronaldo did is going back to Man Utd thinking he’s gonna find exactly the same club spirit he left and of course Man Utd should’ve give him the respect that a player of his caliber deserves. Although one of my strongest opinions is that they forced him out because they actually can’t afford spending almost 2M/month in a single player

I think Ronaldo lost United 's respect when he announced he wanted to leave last summer and his agent went club hooping trying to get his client a new team whilst still under contract at United, that's disrespect alot of people want to wash under the carpet. How did United disrespect him...by not playing him because he was clearly not in sync with the team. He is paid to fit in the team not the other way around. Am glad he has left..good luck wherever he ends up.

Brian Cox is a brilliant man, with a huge heart. He does a huge amount with his own money and using his celebrity to assist and draw attention to the suffering and need of others --- unlike those who just sing a song or narrate a documentary he puts his own money up which he does without fanfare. He is also has very well thought through views on problems and issues and has greater knowledge than most politicians (see him on BBC Question Time for example). Before today's country of Bulgaria was founded by Asparuh his father, on his death bed asked him in front of all his other sons to pick up an arrow and break it. Asparuh easily did so. Then his father asked him to pick up the whole sheaf of arrows and break them. Asparuh tried but couldn't. Then his father told him and all his sons not to split up because they are weak on their own. Stay united, always be together. Having said that the UK should remain as is. We broke away from EU and now we are economically worse off, if the UK breaks up each country will be worse off. Similarly if the states in USA split up each one will be worse off. We need to stick together.

More trade = better economy. Instead of getting their people in the EU committees to fight for favourable outcomes and better deals for the UK, they threw the baby out with the bath water and dissolved all trade agreements, for no reason and with no plan. Splitting up the UK will do the same thing for Scotland Ireland and the lot. The trade deals lost will hurt a lot more than the minor power scuffles these politicians and tv spokespersons have currently. Politicians will resign after 40 days with pension but the people will be hurting for a lifetime.

Thank you, Brian, for saying this. I think you are actually talking about a CONFEDERATION rather than a FEDERATION. You can find the definitions on the differencebetween website. About half of the Scottish people want independence and about half want to be part of a union. The exact percentages change from year to year. But can you imagine if the result of a new referendum was say a 52% percent majority. Could Scotland really start off as a new independent country with 48% of the voters opposed to this? That would be a repeat of the mistake of Brexit. The only sustainable way forward is a middle way that gathers the support of a supermajority (e.g. at least 60%) of Scottish voters. This could be achieved by proposing a British Confederation, where Scotland, Wales and England are independent countries who choose to join this confederation, and can also leave it at any time, if their people so choose (again requiring a supermajority). Where most political matters are decided at the national level by these 3 independent countries, but where certain matters are decided at the confederation level: e.g. a shared currency, a shared postal service, a shared broadcasting corporation (BBC), some shared defence and foreign policy, etc. - whatever makes sense to coordinate at the level of the whole of Britain, whatever is most important for those Scots who like being in a union. Regarding currency, as Brian says, that should be the first thing that the confederation would decide. The pound sterling is a de facto shared currency. The Scottish and English crowns and then the parliaments agree to merge 400 and 300 years ago. If Scotland becomes independent then we at that time need to negotiate what happens to our shared currency - the pound. England does not have the moral right to throw Scotland out of our shared currency. How can they say they are our friends and they want us to stay in a union, and at the same time threaten us with throwing us out of our shared currency union? That is hypocrisy - that is the bigger country abusing the power of its size to try and intimidate the smaller country.

Ronaldo is one of the greatest footballers to ever play the pitch. He was disrespected from the moment he put his gifted feet on the practice field. It’s clearly obvious there was an enormous amount of animosity towards his prestigious stature and reputation as being a top performer for numerous years. Then comes the age difference and his humongous salary which set an unbalanced energy between his colleagues. Let’s face it, Ronaldo isn’t getting any younger and his demanding expectations probably won’t pan out in the long run unless he clicks with a team that appreciates his talent and hard working attitude. Yes, he’ll probably take a reduction in salary but he might be a lot happier on the pitch and end his career with a tremendous smile on his face.

Morgan - "The polls don't show a majority for independence" - not true, many polls over the last 8 years have shown a majority for independence. The UK media don't tend to report this though. Cox handles Piers very well, by not being drawn into an argument. Some of the stuff Morgan comes up with, like the border and currency is nonsense. The idea that Scotland couldn't use the pound is ridiculous, although its not a long term solution, it can be a short term stopgap. There is no hard border between Ireland/EU and NI, so bizarre that this suggestion that there would need to be a hard border between Scotland and England is nonsense.

I lile Brian Cox ,great actor , but he underestimates the strength of the United Kingdom , the synergy & respect between Scotland & England , between Scottish & English is like a good marriage - it will be never perfect but the whole is so much greater than the parts ; in addition has not given Britex enough time to deliver significant benefits for Great Britain , which the excellent Prime Minister Rishi Sunak might actually deliver ( as a last point scotland becoming part of EU might not be so great ) Having said that a 'United Federation' may be worth considering ...

Question: What is oppressive about the hijab law? Answer: It is oppressive because women can’t wear whatever they want. They don’t have the ability to choose. Q: But is there any country in the world that allows people to wear whatever they want, i.e., unlimited choice? A: Yes, Western countries of course! Q: In these Western countries, can a person walk around in public with his genitals exposed? A: Well no. Q: So would requiring him to cover himself be oppressive according to your definition of oppression? Wouldn’t this mean that, in these countries, a person can’t always choose? A: No, because exposing one’s genitals violates principles of decency and civility. It’s very different from exposing one’s hair. Q: Who decided that exposing one particular area of the body (genitalia) violates decency and civility and exposing another part of the body (hair) is perfectly acceptable? A: Uh, that’s just what is normal. Q: Who decided that? What is that based on? Where does such an idea even come from? A: Uh… Q: Are you not aware of the hundreds of cultures and societies past and present that draw the lines differently, that have different conceptions of nudity, that have different standards of decency, etc.? A: Uh… Q: Do you have any principled basis to appeal to, to at least try to justify why Western standards should be the default around the world, even in places like Iran or Saudi or Afghanistan or…? A: Uh… You see, Muslims standards of public dress are based on Divine commands. What we believe should or should not be covered comes from what Allah has commanded, and insofar as we believe in Allah, we follow that guidance and strive to understand the larger cosmic significance and wisdom of those commands. Others might not believe in any of this, but at least Muslims have some reasoning that follows from higher principles. But the Western standards of dress imposed on all are based on nothing more than cultural norms, and cultural norms have no principled basis. They ultimately boil down to, “This is just what we do,” or “This is what we found our forefathers doing and we just follow them because that’s what is comfortable.” There’s nothing more to it. Yet, they are so confident and so militant when it comes to their views on dress, views that are ultimately based on nothing. But our views are based on the firmest foundation, yet we easily cave and throw it away for the sake of meaningless cliches about “choice” and “freedom,” cliches that fall apart with the slightest bit of scrutiny.

Do those hijab commandments only apply to women then? No hijab for men? How convenient of Allah. Not much on the equality of human beings was he? And the next time you try to make a stupid argument on KZitem about religion try to debate with a human being instead of making up your own answers. There's very good reasons why the West find the lack of equality between men and women in Arabic and Muslim countries abhorrent. If you'd allowed a human being to answer your original question the response would have been. Question: What is oppressive about the hijab law? Answer: While we all know and appreciate that people cant wear whatever they like, its wrong that the standards of dress is different between men and women. While men can choose not to wear religious dress women are forced to do so. That is oppressive!!
