@muchanadziko6378
2 жыл бұрын
mixing and arrangement are completely different things, let me explain: Arrangement is the art of choosing the right instrument for the right part, or writing parts for specific instruments, so they'd fit the song (perfectly). This is what a composer does really. Mixing is what the producer does. He takes the recorded "arrangement" and then balances volume, effects, frequencies, etc. So, what Brian is amazed by is how Martin "produced" the song better. Not arranged, because it's already been arranged and recorded by Brian in the sixties. And honestly, he's 100% right. Even though it's a TV special, that was converted to a yt video, you can still hear the vast difference ion the mix. I remember seeing this clip for the first time, about two years ago, and I was blown away by how good "God Only Knows" sounds, when it's Martin in the producer's chair. One can't help but wonder: what would Brian accomplish is sir George Martin was producing the Beach Boys back in the day

@@muchanadziko6378 you haven't got it quite right either, production and engineering are both separate processes, and a lot of producers aren't responsible for mixing/mastering the track. That's generally handled by an engineer at the final stage or side by side with production. Saying mixing is what the producer does is just reductive. The producer is involved from the start, they don't become involved AFTER recording, they're the ones responsible for the recording process in the first place. George didn't produce anything here, he did a rough mix of the master tracks, but even then all he did was change the volume levels of the finished parts, he didn't EQ, compress, use reverb etc. If anything George is in the engineer's chair here not the producer's, and even calling it that is a stretch

I hate to be Mister Negativity here, but the world has been without The Beach Boys, for a few decades now! "the beach boys" is now a fourth-rate cover of The Beach Boys! The Brian Wilson Band is infinitely better. Jan and Dean were better. And Papa Doo Run Doo Run is better. (Now known a Papa Doo Run Run.) You are quite correct in one aspect. How would it be, to not have what Brian Wilson has given us? If The Beach Boys had been a 4 boy band, (3 brothers and a friend) the world would have been better! The friendly competition between Sir Paul, and Brian? Every single music-loving person was enhanced by that "conflict." I wonder if The Beach Boys had been a British band, Sir Brian, and Sir Carl? George Martin fascinates me to this day. He seems completely at home mixing the song, and Brian likes the result. Not putting Brian down at all, but musicians are too close to their music sometimes. That's where a producer comes in, knowing what to add or leave out. And there is no one right way to produce a song. NO Kelvin, the lyrics of God Only Knows are 100% Brian Wilsons'...NO OTHER HUMAN. Tony Asher is given credit for his minimal...but important...contribution & the assistance he gave Brian to complete the song. Asher was important because he assured Brian the song has merit. Brian needed this valuable input from a person he greatly respected. Regarding the comments about Carl Wilson: Out of sincere brotherly love & in an effort to help build Carls' confidence & give him an opportunity to be "the front man"...Brian asked Carl if he would sing God Only Knows. Brian knew EXACTLY what he was doing & he knew brother Carl better than ANYONE. He knew the heart & soul of Carl & that "he" had the best voice for this song. More important: Brian knew Carl had the best personality to deliver the deep sentiment of the lyrics. The combination of each aspect has made God Only Knows one of the most iconic songs in rock//pop music history. If ANY other member of The Beach Boys would have voiced the lyrics of God Only Knows it would have made much less of an impact. This is the true genius of Brian Wilson. BTW: Brian has always given his brother due credit for the popularity of God Only Knows. After Carls' death, he doesn't mention much about this. Because of the emotional distress of talking about his deceased brothers. Respectfully, Ben

I also love Small Faces/Faces, the Hollies, Cream, Roxy Music, T.Rex, David Bowie, Oasis, The Stone Roses, Suede, the Verve, Catherine Wheel, Chapterhouse, Slowdive, Ride... I could go on for hours, all British. That said, the Beach Boys will continue to stand the test of time as one of the heights of human artistic achievement. Mozart, Beethoven, Bach, Wilson... When I hear Brain speak I think about the gardener (billy Murray) from Caddy shack. He sounds very similar

George Martin produced the first Beatles Album, Brian Wilson was so shocked by the Beatles that he got depressed then started writing. The Beatles always were fascinated and watching the Beach Boys. Not Bob Dylan, not any American folk singers, not most blues singers. Just the Beach Boys. Not just because Brian Wilson was a genius but because the Beach Boys were doing harmony better and had amazing songs, like In My Room. The best always listeners to the best.

Or Maybe Brian was being gracious meeting a genius producer, seriously would anyone want to pick fault with Pet Sounds?

2:28. Brian Wilson’s intense focus is reminiscent of Beethoven, the genius creator. It’s like looking into the face of God.
