A'chynee Edmundson it’s just a very lazy video. Buzzfeed has more than enough resources to bring in designers to speak about ring cost, explain labor and gem quality, ethics, and even direct people to places depending on budget. This video is pure laziness and obviously just more clickbait. A print out? For a very small item? Please.

Probably because they could have A) gotten them from a single jewler which would have made the prices fairly similar and their opinions could have offended them OR B) They could have used employees rings but they would have had to clean them and everything, keep track of them, then they could have also been offended by the opinions.

The sentimentality goes a long way too. The total eventual cost of what my engagement ring once complete might be a bit pricey in some circles but it's having special memories attached to it. Though, that said, getting it custom made by a close friend is a mere fraction of the retail markup cost... it would've been stupid money to buy similar from a retail outlet.

Having a start on a down payment for a house is nice too.
@madvoice

@@recoil53 I'd never pay that much for a ring. To me, pricey is a few thousand (well below 5K). Our wedding cost under $900 including the wedding bands, lunch, courthouse ceremony and official marriage certificate. No flowers, no cake, no reception, no fancy clothes, own makeup and hairstyling. I've been slowly working on the concept and design of this engagement ring for 4.5 years now. It'll probably take another 18 months or more before it's actually complete. I'm one for quality but not over inflated priced jewellery that anyone can own. I am looking at an heirloom piece. You know who's going to pay for the majority of it? ME! (Though hubby has had input along the way) I'm not an overly materialistic person. I do a LOT of thrift shopping. My most valuable find to date is an artisan sterling silver necklace with topaz, red jasper and rose de France amethyst. I paid $5 for it and it's insured for $5000! It was the most valuable item I wore on my wedding day. My dress was handmade as a wedding gift by a close friend, our wedding rings were handcrafted (also by a close friend jeweller of mine that's also crafting the engagement ring) out of sterling silver recycled from a broken fob chain that belonged to my great grandfather and my orthopedic wedge dress heels were the most expensive item that I'd had replaced under insurance as I'd lost my previous pair due to flooding in my area earlier this year ($99 marked down from $250); along with many other flood loses. Renting is more economically feasible for our family right now as when my father passes I am willed lifetime residency in his house nearby (along with my autistic brother who I'll be caring for). Sometimes it's just nice to have something of quality with a story to share instead of a fancy, expensive ring to show off because it's some kind of engrained societal status symbol. My younger sister spent in excess of $50K on her wedding which I think was ridiculous and completely wasteful. She was given my paternal grandmother's engagement ring. An antique diamond solitaire of over a carat weight in 18K gold to the value of around $10K. She loves to show it off. She thinks I'm jealous but I'm allergic to gold and dislike diamonds so it means absolutely nothing to me.

@@kelseamartinezofficial Last l checked, diamonds were gemstones. They may be difficult to scratch but they can quite easily chip and shatter if you knock them the wrong way. This even includes those with great cut, clarity and quality. Certain coloured diamonds are rarer than others, this is true. However, high quality jewellery grade gemstones aren't as rare as most people would like to think. There's nothing wrong with wanting a nice heavy carat, high quality diamond engagement ring if your means allow for it. You go for it! I just don't see the attraction. Yes, the gemstones of my choosing aren't as high on the MOHs scale as a diamond however, the choice of setting style plus the metal they're set in will make a big difference to longevity in the long term. I'm allergic to gold and while l can wear silver (and have a silver wedding band), I'd rather invest in a more durable metal like platinum for my engagement ring with the gemstones that l like than a diamond that does nothing for me.

I get what your saying, the metal does help but gem stones of sapphires etc. Still wear. Though visible to the eye seem fine. You have to be careful as to how you even clean them. The edges on a gem wear much faster. I see this on a daily basis most people don't realize due to not seeing it under a light and microscope. A lot of people have to replace there gems as the years go. They will have an internally cracked gem and won't even realize. Were I've seen someone with there great great grandmothers diamond in perfect condition. And as for cracking etc. Yes very true they can but its not easy and also depends on the shape. U have to hit it at a vulnerable place on the diamond. That and if the diamond is not in proportion. Of course hit anything hard enough. It will chip. I completely understand what your saying though

I’ve told my boyfriend that I don’t want anything crazy, I like simple. As long as i genuinely like it and it doesn’t turn my finger green, idc how much it costs. It could come from Walmart for all I care.

You should do a video with rings from Modern Gentleman Trading Company, but don’t tell them that the rings don’t have real diamonds until the end

Fyi NEVER buy an engagement with an opal. It's one of the softest stones, it's constant upkeep. I guarantee within 2 years you'll be buying an entirely different ring or at the very least replacing the stone.

The fact that that one girl said that that one ring wasn’t sapphire or turquoise and then was right that it was cheap and the other girl was like “she knows her stones” although SHE OBVIOUSLY FORGOT ABOUT AQUAMARINE. Which is what that gemstone in that ring is modeled after…ugh it just makes me mad.

This makes me ever so thankful my father taught me a lot about jewellery, hallmarks, maker's marks and that l have a master jeweller as a friend. I've also had a keen interest in precious and semi-precious gemstones since I was a child. There ain't no way my husband is getting away with cheating on an engagement ring. It's still a work in progress to be honest. We got married first (courthouse wedding) and my engagement ring is being custom made in stones rarer than diamonds. I'll get it eventually but it'll be one of a kind and well worth it (platinum as I'm allergic to gold and it needs to be stronger than silver to protect the stones).

I don't care about the price of the rings. I care that they care and know enough about me to get a style I like, and I care that they don't cause any reactions or fall apart too easily. The rings would be very sentimental to me- as one of the symbols of the union, and I need something I can wear every day like I'd want to. I also would have no problem paying for my wedding band and his engagement ring, as I'd like him to wear one if he agrees and because engagements rings are usually the most overcharged. I was close on most, but not because of an adequate knowledge on jewelry. I was mostly lucky; the pictures took away the necessary 3D and physical elements of jewelry. There isn't much ease in guessing ring prices through photos from random sources. It was much easier to mistake cubic zirconias for diamonds and you couldn't even get a good inspection of the beveling or the weights and sizes of the stones or bands. They tried it with this video, but the ladies were pretty chill.

What humbling thing that people don't realize is that whether or not it is expensive or not all engagement rings have the same meaning. I personally wouldn't feel comfortable with a ring that is too expensive. People are brainwashed that bigger is better when it comes to rings and if you have a cheap ring then it looks bad or that your man/women is less of a person or loves you less. To me its wasteful to spend more than $5,000 on a ring now a days.

So the center diamond is actually what is going to cost you the most. This is why Halo rings are so popular because you get the look of a large center stone without all the $$$$. Small diamonds on the band aren’t worth nothing, but that is not what you will be spending more on when purchasing a diamond ring.

Am I the only one that doesn’t care about it being a diamond with the way the diamond industry is? Like why not go with another stone like moissanite which is very comparable to diamond in strength but brighter than a diamond

Totally disappointed in Buzzfeed for not partnering with ANY jeweler for this video! You could’ve at least had people from the office show their ring and stand while people looked at their ring and guessed the price if you didn’t want to partner with anyone. Pictures don’t show every aspect of a gemstone! Need a do-over!!! 😫
