She says, "spored a gender" (which is meaningless nonsense) when she really means to say, "spawned a genre" (which means was the first in a category). I hope that helps.

This is no joke... There really are interviewers as spectacularly obnoxious and disrespectful as this... I've seen it many times, and it makes me cringe just to think of them... But besides that... Yeah, this was freaking hilarious!!! XD I never knew it was from a book!!! Priceless...

No matter how many times I watch this, I still lol. RZ is brillantly funny and Colin so subtle with his reactions. He could do no wrong...love the hesitation in his answers, the swipe at HG, the smirk, the body language....hilarious!!!

The part where she mentions Richard Curtis is when she asks if RC has "spored his own gender" (what she means is "spawned his own genre") re: romantic comedies like 'Love, Actually'. The bit about the "Italian actress sitting down" was about Colin Firth's co-star in 'Love, Actually' (who's actually Portuguese) and whether or not she's sitting in the lake or kneeling (in their shared scene in that movie). I encourage you to read the actual 'interview' in the EOR book =)

The novel includes a scene in which Bridget Jones interviews Colin Firth; however, as Firth was already playing Mark Darcy in the film, no satisfactory way could be found to film the scene. The situation was remedied by filming it as a DVD feature with Renée Zellweger in character as Bridget Jones and Firth playing himself.

For anyone who has seen Bridget Jones The Edge of Reason, I think you will find this ironically hilarious not only because Colin Firth actually PLAYS the part of Mark Darcy (strangely close to Mr. Darcy) but because of the comic animosity BETWEEN the actors Colin Firth and Hugh Grant evident in this "interview" by Colin Firth's "comments" about Hugh Grant in Love Actually
@Gwisemua

Hahaha. Thanks for uploading this. I love it! I read the book YEARS ago and I don't remember this scene, but it's hilarious. It's a pitty they couln't include in the movie. Of course, with Colin playing Mark, it was impossible to do so, but I'm glad they filmed it anyway.

I don't know that CF's outright refused (he's said that the material would have to be really good). RZ has a point about the weight gain, though surely makeup and padding could overcome that. The 2005 columns is where Bridget ended up pregnant and for a time the paternity was in question, but it did turn out to be Daniel's. The columns, in the end, were left hanging rather unsatisfactorily. If HF could resolve that, then maybe book 3 will be decent--if it ever comes.
@sandrafaith

No, not exactly. From the book interview, which was a real interview with HF: 'At one point Andrew even wrote as a stage direction: "Imagine that Darcy has an erection."... It's when Elizabeth's been walking across the country and bumps into him in the grounds in the early stages. ... Andrew also wrote that I don't propose that we should focus on it, and therefore no acting required in that department at least.'

@LaDy2rNeR The first book is a bit different than the movie; there is an entire subplot regarding her mother (and Julio/Julian, who is not a television presenter but a smooth operator) that is cut out of the film but in the end I think the changes helped to tighten the plot a bit. I definitely recommend the book.

He is a good sport about it... I believe the original interview that appeared in the _Edge of Reason_ book (which is mostly what this was based on) was really an interview Helen Fielding conducted with Colin Firth for the purpose of inclusion in the book.
