I'm glad I'm not alone. I am 67 so have no time to waste on the crap that has sweet FA to do with quilting on how their aunt's husband's first cousin once removed daughter's boyfriend's mother's distant cousin...my eyes glaze over and I switch off physically and metaphorically.

This was probably the BEST video tutorial regarding machine binding that I have seen - and I've been watching everything regarding quilting for years. I especially appreciated the application of the binding with about an 1/8th of an inch of the quilt backing fabric showing. A light-bulb went off! Why didn't I ever think of that? It's easy to see how this relatively simple step will improve accuracy and appearance. I am FMQ the last two bordered sides of a huge quilt and am actually looking forward to binding it! Always, always looking for an easier or better or more efficient way of doing things and you checked all three boxes. THANK YOU! I believe some folks are born with a knack for teaching that no amount of college can impart. Sharing your knowledge and 'how-to' with others in a way they can understand and put to use - and actually find joy doing so in the process - is a GIFT. Still learning all I can in my 80th year.

I have tried and tried, but 2.5 inches does NOT work for me. I cut MOST of my binding strips at 3". I know, the quilt police will have me Drawn & Quartered. But they look beautiful for me this way. I put my pressed binding strip inside a plastic grocery bag and tie it loosely shut. Then, I place it in my sewing garbage pan, so the strip will feed upward to the sewing machine and out of my way. 🎉

I like bigger bindings too. I use 2.5" also, but i am now going to try leaving a little of the quilt showing (instead of lining up the edges of the binding and the quilt) - this is actually grading the seam "as you go", which will result in less bulk at the edge - love it! 😊
@nancyarchibald9095
11 ай бұрын
This accomplishes the same thing as cutting strips 3" wide or more. Actually, staggering the seam allowances like that will make it ALL less bulky. (Easier to miter corners too.) Next time, I'm going to cut the binding even wider to 3.25" wide and stagger the allowances. Arthritic fingers that are puffy and frozen do not lend themselves well, to tiny maneuvers anymore.

For those of us who are directionally challenged, joining ends can be frustrating. It was so easy to get things backward. You are so right about the muscle memory! Once developed for every aspect of quilting, things go much faster/smoothly. I, like many, relied on on Sharon Schambers video. Your video is very straight forward an helpful and will save many time and frustration! A pair of eagle beak tweezers is an MVP on helping to get a crisp corner, as sometimes corners can be finicky. The tweezers make it easier to grip and flip--particularly if one uses
