Ever imagined a plant that grows two vegetables at the same time? This is now a reality thanks to a scientist and his team at the Indian Institute of Vegetable Research. Meet 52-year-old Dr. Anand Bahadur from Uttar Pradesh who has created a plant that bears both Brinjals and Tomatoes. Dr. Bahadur was tasked in 2011 with finding a solution to growing tomatoes during monsoons. After several trials and errors, he found the solution by grafting a tomato stem onto a brinjal plant. Aptly named ‘Brimato’, this hybrid plant can be harvested 5 to 6 times a year and yields 2.5 kg of brinjal and 2 kg of tomato each time! He next aims to create another version of this by growing brinjal, tomato and chilly from the same plant. #India #plants #tomato #farming #vegetables
