I have never bought any antiseize in my working life(50 plus years) but what we used decades ago was a graphite grease mix called Black Morgans. I was working on all sorts of heavy equipment ,some of which hadn't been apart for decades but previous folks had used the black morgans and it was rare for bolts and so on to require the hot wrench .i see there are a few different products which could be the same type of graphite grease on the market, but having used graphite on hot chains in machinery(moving kilns etc ) I know cattle piss etc will not wash it off.
@gullreefclub

Anti-Seize is behind RTV Silicone is the most misused products ever made for use by mechanics. I blame this on a number of reasons the first being is most mechanics do not read the data application sheet for the product and traditional any company’s product data application sheets are very vague and poorly written and as a result mechanics who historically may not have had the best of reading skills and who have to rely on their best judgment to diagnose and repair whatever vehicle repair machine they are working on buy/grab whatever they think might help fix the problem when it comes to greases, gasket material(s), lubricants, penetrating oils, thread lockers, etc. Additionally many mechanics get their start in the military and if ever there was a place where bad repair practices start it is the military because everything in the military has a procedure to do something from washing your hair, shaving your face, making your bed/rack, how to dress, cleaning the barracks, your weapon, performing maintenance on equipment, repairing equipment, etc. The problem is once a method of doing is adopted as the correct way to do something even if it is totally wrong it is almost impossible to change that procedure because you are not just rewriting how to do it at your location but though out the entire military. That said the reason procedures and bad practices get adopted in the military is sometimes out of pure ignorance (When have you ver heard a DI admit he made a mistake to a recruit.) secondly out of tradition (I.E. It has been done this way since Moby Dick was a minnow and Jesus Christ was just a PFC), thirdly because these are the materials and supplies on hand and there is no money or time to get a new and corrected product certify (Get Mil-Spec’d) and even if there was some 1st John at the Pentagon who can’t fix a peanut butter and jelly sandwich decides this already Mil-Spec’d item is a suitable substitute when it’s not. fourth is somebody who knew somebody sold something a bucket of chicken manure at stupid profit and hence the poor SOB in the field is stuck making chicken soup out of chicken s#*t. However for the gals/guys who became mechanics and were never in the military that select and purchase and use the wrong product for the job let us not forget the simplest of reasons Marketing. Let’s be honest we as mechanics tend to be he ultimate suckers for gadgets if we think they will make our job easier, or our repair somehow better in any way because if our job is at least perceived to be done better somehow or another and will gain us status with our customers means they will keep coming back to us for additional maintenance/repairs and allow us to charge a few bucks more and with our peers will gain us a certain amount of status because look at Jane, or Bob, he or she really does their job the right way. Now that you have waded thought ALL Of That Bull Manure What 99 out of 100 Mechanics don’t Understand is Ant-Seize except for Marine Versions regardless if it is Silver or Copper in color is not waterproof and is in reality NOT a Lubricant it is a Anti-Galling / Ant-Corrosion compound. An by Ant-Corrosion I am not talking rust but rather Galvanic Corrosion such as Aluminum to Aluminum \ Aluminum to Steel surface/thread contact. Additionally many mechanics do not realize that all greases are not waterproof. I admit for a number of years I was one of the Lambs who blindly slathered Ant-Seize on anything and everything and wondered why stuff was stuck together when I had to take it apart on some stuff and others it would one right apart. It was not until I screwed my leg up and couldn’t turn wrench’s so instead got a job as a counterman at a parts store and started reading material application sheets that I discovered I like so many other had been using Ant-Seize and whole lot of other products incorrectly and thus having less than stellar results with them. In short there are only few marine/waterproof Anti-Seize compounds on the market but unfortunately none list in there data sheets that I have read list they are resistant to bovine urine/manure, so maybe anti-seize is not the best compound to put on thread suspension parts etc for equipment used around cattle farms. What might be something to experiment with is coating threads on suspension parts with a very thin coating of “liquid thread sealant” ie Teflon tape in a bottle or tube or of course a tacky marine salt- waterproof grease.

*@**11:44* "Anti Seize" is meant to reduce galling and premature tightening of fasteners. The different base metals have different applications; Molybdenum Disulfide (silver colored) is for general use. Copper is for hot parts (exhaust). If you want stuff to come apart for routine maintenance- thoroughly clean all components, then light grease threads, fasten, then coat with an epoxy paint or plasti-dip or similar, to lock out corrosion. Coatings are easily removed, fasteners easily removed. Many companies make 2-part epoxy coatings, concrete/garage floor stuff is great for nuts & bolts, seams, and case seams. Clear, colored. 1 light swipe. RTV/Silicone is great, too.

Have you tried silicone grease for some of those threads that get exposed to electrolytic salts (farm manure/urine and road salts)? Siiicone grease will act like an insulator grease and stand some decent temperatures, Would not use it for exhaust components. Cheap version would be pool o-ring silicone grease or Dow vacuum grease, which is made of silicone. I would not use it around fuels to seal, just on the threads only. I worked in industrial plants where I could not use regular anti-seize compounds on some parts of the equipment, made disassembly easier for me especially where cleaning chemicals were used.

My friend who rescued the Peterbilt 359 last year also rescued an Allis Chalmers 655 track loader that was parked in the woods for 10 years....previous owner had the engine rebuilt and they punctured the torque converter seal putting the engine back in, so it would just leak ATF out as soon as you could pour it in. So rather than pull the engine out again, he just parked it.

Hi I have been watching your video's about maintainence & repairs maintainence of machinery & I agree that many firms & companies don't do very much on their machines , they just keep running them until they stop & just do't want the machine standing idol while its being maintained but then they do moan & blame the machine when they have to spend a lot of money on repairs once they stop & don't realise its their fault that so much needs doing & parts need replacing & its all their fault for never doing oil changes & cleaning the main cleanable filters & replacing the changeable ones regularly cause extra wear on parts etc. I recently bought a Cat D8 Dozer that I bought over the internet from a company in America & imported it to me in the UK & although basically the machine in general was okay. Most of the problems I have had with it were all because every one of the filters were clogged & I would not have thought any oil was being filtered & even the main supply pipe & hose was clogged up so much that the big Hyster winch on the rear of the machine would not work because the supply of oil to it was vertually blocked solid, So I removed the main pump & it also was clogged with crap but luckily nothing broken or worn to bad. So after stripping & cleaning everything & replacing all the filters plus a couple of the main supply hose's because they also were in very good condition. Then in comparison the old D8 operated like a new one. Then I had a problem with the drive power which was also caused by the same lack of maintainence & after checking through I found the transmission was also in need of cleaning & replacing which I have now done & the nest thing I have to do is to strip down the final drives both sides because they have an oil leak from the main seals. Once I have finished all these jobs then I will service the rest of it using top quality oils etc to really give the old girl a new lease of life & several people have said to me why are you bothering to do all this work on such an old machine & my answer to them is in several ways,= one being I am not a plant machine mechanic I am a lorry/truck mechanic & I like the older machine that are not all computerised but straight forward mechanical machines & the basic's of mechanics is the same no matter what its on & I prefer the older ones where you can apply basic mechanical principles to be able to work things out & do the jobs that often were caused by paw of complete lack of maintainence in the first place, so its now onwards to do the rest of the work but as it's outside & winter is coming in fast probably a lot of things will have to be left until early spring next year because of the weather & when its all done it will then have re-paint. Then it will be time to start on my D6 which I also imported so although it starts & runs okay I am expecting to find the same problems on this machine although I hope not. Cheers , keep up the good work, take care Brian. .

I don’t usually comment on anything or give advice, I do have a suggestion that helped me over the years. Your battery doors are a pain with no catches to hold them. Get two earth magnets and a a piece of flat steel, bend the one end of the flat steel at 90 degrees. Slap the mag on the stationary panel, put the 90 bend on the mag, open the door and slap the other mag on to act as a keeper on ahead of the door. Worked pretty well for me. You will find it useful in other situations also. Good vids, good at what you do, keeper comin my friend.

I read the same thing about boy dogs and girl dogs talking about mid sized poodles. Mine was a boy and acting as if he was poisoned. Twitchy, walking drunk and no real motor control, pupils as big as saucers not responding to flashlight and scared right out of his mind. Called the vet after hours and thank God he took the call. Told me to use a turkey baster loaded with 3 ounces of hyrodgen peroxide and be sure to force it down his throat past his lungs and fight him if I had to in order to get it into his stomach and holding his throat shut around the baster stem inside his throat. Then wait for the upchuck to see what it was actually he might have gotten into, and call back if there were further concerns with obvious rat bait or similar. Within minutes up came a tomato slice with black bits all about. Puzzled over that since we had no garden and no tomatoes that year. Then I remembered for the past six weeks seeing a single slice of a store bought tomato in the gallon garbage can all covered with black hairy fungus, checked and it was gone. Mom had finally thrown it out for the chickens and they wanted nothing to do with it. He had forced himself to eat it no matter what it tasted like because he couldn't let the other dog have a chance at it. Ef'n stupid, but that was him all day long. He started recovering straight off and in a few hours was just a little tired but his normal self. Me too for that matter.

Yikes, When I read your story I thought wow, that can't be good. But I only worked with 50% hydrogen peroxide, and that stuff turns skin to jelly and melts your clothes. Apparently your household 3% stuff is applicable to inducing vomiting. Glad your pooch pulled through and I sure learned something.

A man after my own heart... Like me your care for your family members (dogs). I love them more than some of my own family... One thing about them they are loyal and loving.

Don't get stuck on tri-pods. You have a few mag mounts for micrometers that would make real good camera mounts.

Hmm seems like something in that d8k driveline is failing to plug up that suction screen. Loose pinion hub or a bad bearing in something. Open cab machines have the dip stick and filler under the seat for the power shift trans. That 7f is worth fixing and putting a blade back on it. Tq converter is isn’t to hard to pull and rebuild.

why do you buy cat filter brand,, cat dont make filters, only a small few make filters and brand them for anyone that will buy huge order, your paying 3 to 4 times more just for the branded name, my sister use to work at cat cleaning filters day in day out, these were the bigger metal washable filters she cleaned.. and the cat branded filter came in big boxs with the mfg name on the big box. they must have sold the C frame and blade off that 7F unless it is sittting out there some place but being the the C ftrame cylinder are laying right there id say they sold them

20:10: "Maintenance, maintenance!" I completely agree. We are used to simply buying a new piece because very few people know how to do proper maintenance. I think one of the main things companies could do is to have their people trained in maintaining their own means of productions. In the case of machinery, a well-kept machine Will serve you even doublé of what you expected and this could save you a pile of money!
